Todd found himself wandering around the zoo and eventually finding the reptile house. He went inside and explored the glassed exhibits to find the usual snakes, lizards, and small reptiles. In one large section he found two Nile crocodiles around which a group of tourists was gathered. A female zookeeper was explaining.
"These are our oldest guests in the Reptile House." She began with a cheerily overenthusiastic tone. "Our male Nile Crocodile Fred came here almost 20 years ago, while our female Gretta has been here for almost 40! Both are quite old and grumpy, but still impressive beasts."
The last bit made the tourists laugh, but something else caught Todd's eye as he got close enough to see the two big crocs in their simulated river habitat. It looked like the female was missing her left eye, as it had been sewn shut long ago. After all the tourists had left, Todd walked over to the zookeeper before she left and asked about it.
"What's with her eye?" Todd pointed.
At this, the zookeeper went white. "Oh, uh, a few years back she snapped at one of her keepers. He didn't like her and I think she knew it. Uh, and he got his arm caught. Well, he tried to get away."
"The guy wrecked her eye?" Todd asked in horror.
"Well, he had his arm caught!" The girl shrugged. "What would you do?"
"I... guess." Todd shrugged back, although he wondered if there was more to the story than that.
