Jabari was sorry to see John so upset with him, hopefully his time here would change his attitude. But he had other concerns. Going through the paper work to get free range game on the resort's reserve for guests was not proving all that simply, and explaining they were meant as livestock for the guests rather than trophies required lots of patience.
And now at his elder brother's urging he suggested that he now look into a little security, that was going to cost time and money. Jabari was the one almost killed, and Jaali was the one more affected by the incident.
The demented self-proclaimed 'eco-terrorist' had wanted outright martyrdom. Jaali was, protective of his younger sibling. After an open and shut case (mostly from the lunatic outright confessing to his actions with pride) and talk of a 'work release program' the end result had been . . . a now perky and perfectly mentally stable cheetah girl who worked at the resort as the cutest little waitress they had, whose former life was like a bad dream. Yes, Jaali was very protective of his family.
Meanwhile, something in Julie, now Derrick's, gut told her, now him, found the idea of clothing as a sort of necessary evil in accordance with off resort rules. Derrick's thought of the vacation clothes he had brought with her family, and while he had discovered he was now a boy for their vacation, he felt nothing at the pretty dresses and shorts and what not she had liked, but now he just saw as pieces of cloth, with no inherent value beyond that.
Thinking of himself as herself was still easy, even if he had agreed to the name change along with original Derrick. But thinking of himself as human was proving difficult.
None of the guests ever once thought about how they fully accepted the existence of magic when it was explained to them, let alone how they handled their bodies like they had had them before ever coming to the resort. This was part of Jaali's work, since it cut down on the 'magic doesn't exist!' rants and guests tripping over their own feet.
Jaali didn't like his talents being considered 'magic' considering them closer to spiritualism, but for many, magic was simply easier to accept than say the spiritual.
One of the upgrades Jaali hoped to have to his work soon, was that guests would be able to go outside the park in their animal forms naked with humans not batting an eyelash. Ironically, the fact they were more interested in that the guests were going around naked rather than being animal people already spoke volumes of what was a lifetime project of Jaali's.
Jaali's work was after all his lifelong dream, and Jabari's, even if Jabari handled the more practical side of things while Jaali handled the actual core service. And it was constantly changing and being improved. Not that they'd ever be able to become anything other than their own totem, that couldn't change, everything had rules.
