“Go ahead and undo it.” Naomi said.
“Okay.” Sheena said. “Now, I need total concentration for this, so I’m going to temporarily seal all the doors and put up a silence spell around the room so no outside noises or interruptions distract me.” Sheena waved her wand, sending waves of sparkles throughout the room.
Sheena then picked up Yukiko’s wand. “I’ll also need the original wand that cast the spells to help undo it.
“Why’s that?” Naomi asked.
“Fairy wands have a way of ‘recording’ the spells they’ve cast,” Yukiko said from within Naomi, “so using the original wand is the best way to undo a spell.”
Sheena put the tips of the wands together and pointed them at Naomi. “Okay, here we go.” Sheena began chanting in a strange language that sounded like normal, if indiscernible speech, mixed with the ringing of dozens of tiny bells.
First, Naomi found herself back inside the womb where she began, and then the ‘window’ to the outside vanished. Next, she felt herself turning upside down, and then slowly getting pushed through a tight space.
Meanwhile, Yukiko was clearly getting uncomfortable birthing a teenage girl. “Oh goddesses, I feel like I’m going to split in half!” Yukiko screamed.
“This isn’t exactly comfortable for me, either!” Naomi said. “I feel like a glob of toothpaste here!”
Soon, Naomi was back in the outside world, her clothes returned to her. Behind her, Yukiko was sprawled out on the floor, shrinking back down to fairy height. Sheena sat her upright as her wings began sprouting back.
“Okay, I think human pregnancy has lost all of its appeal to me now.” Yukiko said as she received her wand from Sheena.
“Now, let’s see how it went.” Sheena gazed over Yukiko. “Hmm, your magic is about three-quarter’s strength.”
“That’s good, right?” Naomi asked.
“It should be a bit higher than that, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. I won’t know for sure until I look you over, Naomi.” Sheena gazed over Naomi next. “Well, so far so… wait.” Naomi’s heart skipped a beat at that word. Sheena concentrated her gaze before hanging her head and letting out a sigh. “That’s what I was afraid of. Naomi, you’ve retained some of Yukiko’s magic and its taken root within you. It’ll build up over time, slowly turning you into a fairy.”
Naomi was silent for a few moments. Yukiko motioned to try to talk to her, but Sheena stopped her, whispering; “Please, give her a moment to process this.”
Eventually, Naomi spoke up. “How long will it take?”
“Well,” Sheena said, “with the amount you have now, and how fast it’s building up, you should reach full fairy form within one hour.”
“Then what happens?”
“That’s for the Counsel of Queens to decide. I have to bring your case before them. They’ll review it and then they’ll decide how to proceed.”
“They won’t make me leave my family behind?” Naomi asked, already noticing her clothes starting to get loose.
“If anything, I’ll be the one who’ll have to leave the human world behind.” Yukiko said. “It was my mistake that made this tangled mess to begin with.” She flew up to Naomi and hugged her neck. “I’m so sorry.” She sobbed.
“Hey, hey; I’m sure it’ll be alright.” Naomi said, patting Yukiko on her winged back. “Heck, if you can become human, why can’t I?”
“That’ll be the first thing I’ll teach you;” Yukiko said; “and anything else you need to know about being a fairy.”
“I’ll be sure to mention that to the Counsel,” Sheena said, raising her wand “farewell.” She waved her wand around her body in a dynamic flourish and vanished in a burst of glitter.
Naomi stood up, holding on to her clothes, which were more baggy than loose now. “I think we should take this to my room.” The two of them walked over to Naomi’s room, shut the door, and locked it.
“You know, Naomi; fairies can donate their magic to other fairies to help recharge them faster.” Naomi looked at her as if she knew what she was suggesting. “If I did that with you, I could accelerate your change so that you could become a fairy faster.”
