Matt had been slightly confused by what coach Randall meant by saying "right here, right now, we're going to make them." Sure Matt agreed the team was important but what was he gonna do recruit the class? No one in the room had the build or mindset for football, at least Matt knew he and his friends didn't.
"Who here thinks their MAN ENOUGH to join the football team!" Coach Randall asked the class. All the guys and even a girl or two looked around nervous, murmuring amongst themselves. Matt felt conflicted as if he wanted to speak up but at the same time knew football wasn't his thing...was it? Matt was a but freaked out by this confusion.
Finally a few guys in the front started to raise their hands and that gave others the courage to do the same. Matt watched in shock as even Neil raised his hand. Neil was nice and all but it was painfully obvious he was a nerd. He would be the last person to have interest in football. Soon Matt and Bruno found themselves hesitantly raising their hands too. Pretty soon every guy in the room did and coach Randall smirk proudly.
"THATS THE ATTITUDE OUR TEAM NEEDS" he cheered and all the guys seemed to get a great mood boost knowing they made coach proud.
"You for example" coach said pointing out a kid in front "what's your name?"
"Frank" the guy said kinda nervously. Frank was the type of person who was so average he goes completely unnoticed in a room. He wasn't quite smart enough to be called a nerd but not dumb enough or good looking enough to be popular. He was a loner with a small group, even Matt often forgot Frank was there half the time, and he was the one who tried to be nice to everyone.
"See Frank I don't think I've had you in class before but you look like the tough confident type, why the hell aren't you on the team already?" Coach Randall said. Matt was confused hearing that, Frank certainly didn't give off the tough guy vibe. Frank looked just as confused as Matt was for a second. Then it seemed like a burst of confidence filled him out of nowhere. "That's true why the fuck aren't I?" Frank wondered.
Now Matt was very confused. Frank was nothing like that so why was he suddenly acting like that? As Matt watched he noticed a change in Frank, he was taller and much more muscular than Matt remembered. Franks hair had gotten shorter than it had been and he was now in a sleeveless that showed off his new muscle. Plus his expression turned into one of confidence that just made him seem to give off a cocky attitude.
He seemed completely different and yet Matt started to remember Frank being this way. Of course Frank has always been like that Matt had been surprised when he found out Frank wasn't on the football team, he was certainty cut out for it.
Matt still couldn't help but feel weird about the whole thing, he himself was starting to feel strange. He was starting to feel bigger himself. Like he was uncomfortable even sitting in his desk.
