You run home straight away and hurry up the stairs to your room. The tail feels so unnatural in your pants. It was very uncomfortable and restricted as you ran. Finally you make it up to your room and pull your pants down around your thighs so it can hang out.
Immediately the ropy appendage swishes up in a broadly circular motion, a sensation you've never felt before. You look back astonished.
Your new tail is 15 inches long with coarse brown fur and a shaggy black tassel. You gently take it up in your hands and sit down on your bed to have a closer look. You brush your hands along the fur, feel your hands touching it. You stare at it, realizing it's part of you. It spontaneously flaps itself up out of your grasp and comes to a rest behind you on the bed. You can move it freely, of course, and you swing it around a few times just to feel it thwack against the bed. The thumping sounds only confirm yet again that you now have a tail. A real, live, donkey tail, just as though you'd been born with it.
