A Game of Change

Welcome to Wealthflow

added by sjosten 9 years ago O

The five players materialized in an alleyway. It was dark, but overhanging roofs stopped them from seeing if it was night, or just very shady. The players all had two arm guards that stretched from their wrists to their elbows. There were four slots in each guard, and each had a total of six cards face up on their guards.

"What the hell?" Rebeca asked.

"Did the game do this?" Logan asked.

"It would explain these." Will said, gesturing with one arm to the cards stuck in his other.

"Hey, wait, don't look at my cards." Logan said, folding his arms.

"Relax, I can't see your cards, they're face down." Cal said.

"They're face up." Logan said in disbelief. He pulled out one arm to prove it.

"They look face down to me." Rebeca said.

"No, all of yours look face down, mine... I'm the only one who can see my cards." Logan said.

"So, you guys can't tell what cards these are?" Will asked, displaying his arm guards.

"Nope. They look like normal old card backs to me." Cal said.

"Where are we?" Gabe asked, peering out of the alley.

"Oh yeah, that would be good to know." Rebeca said, walking up next to him.

"Guys? Guys, that's an orc." Logan said, pointing at a large, green man at a nearby booth.

"Don't point at him, don't draw his attention, don't even breathe." Will said, pushing Logan's arm down.

"What the hell?" Rebeca said again.

"We're in the game." Cal said.

"That, or you guys spiked my drink something awful." Rebeca said.

"Oh sure, accuse the lonely gamers of drugging a girl." Will smirked.

"I wanna go home." Gabe said.

"No you don't. If the game could do this, then that wish we get at the end is the real deal." Cal said.

"I forgot about that." Logan said.

"OK, awesome-sauce. We get a wish. Where's the end of the dungeon?" Rebeca asked.

"Logan, you have the rules." Will said.

"I do? I do!" Logan said, reaching into his pocket, "OK, wish, six cards, this is all the same thing."

"There's something on the back now." Cal said, grabbing the rules from Logan, "Wealthflow City, the capitol of capital. This is one of the most prosperous trade cities in the world. However, crime is on the rise, and it's up to some uppity adventurers to put a stop to the meanest, baddest assassin ring this side of Asgard: the Blade of the Gods. They are led by the psychotic djinn Zircota. Take him down no matter the cost."

"I am not uppity." Logan said.

"Really? That's what you took away from that?" Rebeca asked.

"So, we have to kill this guy. Where to?" Will asked.

Cal looked at the rules again. Then he looked to his right. Then back at the rules. Then to his right. He pointed about six feet from where they were standing. "That door."

Logan ran over and opened it up. "Simple enough."

"That's what I'm afraid of." Will said, ducking his head as he went inside. The others followed suit soon after.

They were in what was clearly a maintenance entrance. There was a window into an office room to their right. In front of them was a door that opened into a staircase. To their left was a long hallway with a door at the very end.
