Matt grabbed the wand and racked his mind for a wish
just as Bryan began banging on the door in earnest. "I
wish Bryan would disappear!" he said, and the sound
immediately stopped.
"What happened?" yelled up Mr. DeSoto from the
surface of the bed. He looked both shocked and quite
affectionate toward Matt, if such a combination is
possible.
"I, uh, couldn't think of anything else!"
"Where is he?"
"I don't know," Matt admitted. His tiny lover looked
stricken, and Matt realized that even the enforced love
he felt for the giant was not enough to cancel out his
dismay of having his middle child vanish from the earth.
"Well, it gives me time to think," said Matt defensively. "I
can bring him back whenever I want to."
"Please do it now," said the tiny man.
Matt thought a moment. "But it has to be in a way where
he doesn't hurt us or interfere. What do you think I
should do?"
