Being 10 and raised on video games and television, David had practically no impulse control or concept of consequences beyond things that were "right" or "wrong."
Having not yet been given "the talk" he was very unprepared for what was about to happen and he thought nothing of the consequences that could potentially arise as there was no rating system on this program like the games he played. He is not restricted from things because of danger or him having a skewed sense of reality, no. He is restricted from things because they are fun and his parents don't understand that he can handle it. I mean, he IS double digits after all.
It started with him wanting to be 13. David's parents were extremely uncool and followed the recommended rating systems for movies and games. PG-13 was out of his reach but not for long... That thought only lasted a moment before he remembered the recently released slasher movie that all the kids were talking about, it is rated R. He'd still have to wait 4 more years before he could see that, and knowing his parents, he wouldn't be able to see it a day sooner.
That was just unacceptable. Plus being 17 would mean he could drive, that was very exciting as he typed it in. Still something held him back, at 17 he was still restricted, he still had curfew, couldn't drink. Not that he specifically wanted to drink but he knew it was fun. it was age restricted after all.
Adults seemed to enjoy drinking and David wanted to experience everything first hand so he wasn't concerned about that. David heard through Aaron, that Aaron's older brother Lucca didn't like smoking till he started doing it a lot every day. David was hungry for experience and went to the mental menu to make sure he had a habit of smoking every day. The excitement of his parents not being able to tell him no anymore made him exhilarated. Besides, if he didn't like it he could stop or undo it.
When he got to the mental section he saw and selected the driving skill with all of the extras (Automatic, Manual, semi, stunt, racecar) as well as age appropriate general knowledge and High School Education. Thankfully he saw this in passing, not that he would have gone out of his way to select it.
When he found the addictions and habits section there were lots of things he didn't understand as well as some things that just seemed weird like "routine oriented." Anyway, he got to the smoking section and saw three options being Pot, Spice, and Tobacco. He selected tobacco cigarettes and was given an entry box for how many per day/week/month. Any less than 1 a month wouldn't constitute as an addiction or habit apparently.
Finally showing a little bit of restraint, David didn't want to go overboard. Trying to think things through he knew that cigarettes come in packs and thought each pack had like 100 cigarettes in them so a moderate amount would be like 20 per day, because he had heard of 2 pack a day smokers and that was treated as excessive. After entering 20 he clicked on Pot because unlike Spice, he heard of it and knew it was restricted to him but people the age he will be did it. This gave him some guidance unlike the cigarettes. It offered three large categories casual, regular, and heavy; and each had three subcategories, being light, moderate and heavy. Though moderate was a strange word to him he put together that it meant in between light and heavy. Using the system he selected 1-3 times every week or two being casual moderate.
Not double checking things he pressed on with certainty in his excitement. He imagined how wonderful his life would be with all his freedoms and no rules. David selected start and was prompted with several more options before starting.
"Do you wish the world to recognize the changes as normal?" Of course, how can I have fun if everyone still thinks I'm 10? Yes
"Do you wish to recognize the changes as normal? 100% means all is normal; 0% means new reality is unknown." I want to know everything about the new reality. 100%
"Error- Data Missing based on settings; between 45 and 10,587 entries needed. Auto-Complete (AC) or Prompt (P)?" I don't want to go through 45 more questions, especially not 10 thousand... I got the basics down the computer can fill in the minor details, and I can change it later if I want. AC.
"Do you want to save your profile for reversion?" Just to be safe, sure.
The program whirled to life, preparing to erase the innocent, if not overly eager, boy from reality.
The boys body began to stretch and bulge with new mass. As his clothes grew too tight or short they would morph into something bigger that fit him for a few more seconds before changing again. With the physical changes, the mental changes came too. David was trying to make sense of it all but it was coming too fast and he was suddenly exhausted and was thinking of ... work?
Collapsing to the sofa David watched as things around him started to shimmer and fade from reality. It was beautiful and he needed to sleep. Darkness took him.
