Mike was stunned by the sudden change, and it took a few moments to realize the young Wizard was talking to him. "...magnificent mount and an amazing warhorse. But I did not think Aaron would ever find a volunteer! Of course, I will make sure that the two of you help your friends on their quest before starting new adventures here. that is only fair."
Other adventures? Mike was supposed to go back to his own world when Tye's game was over. He didn't want to...
Strong arms hugged his neck and Aaron spoke in his ear "You are my greatest treasure. I will protect you with my life just as you will protect me with your own."
A rush of sensations and emotions washed through Mike - the sense of his massive, powerful body, incredible loyalty and devotion to the human on his back, pure pleasure of rich scents around him and the feeling of absolute contentment in knowing his place in the world. Part of him knew that most of the sudden change was part of his transformation, but it felt so perfect to him that it was hard to imagine not being a warhorse.
His master was still hugging him and petting his neck, telling him what a brave and intelligent animal he was. And as Mike heard the words, he felt them becoming true. Memories of past battles with men and monsters alike joined the memories of human past, while comprehension and knowledge began to dim. He was a smart horse, but still just a horse. He was having trouble understanding the confusing memories of walking on two legs, no longer able to grasp complex or abstract thoughts.
Mike did understand what was happening to him, though. The magic was making him the perfect mount for the young Knight - a powerful and loyal steed. Mike the human was fading away, and might never exist again. There was still time to resist - he felt that somehow in his mind, but that time was fading quickly. In minutes, perhaps moments, he would be a horse forever. He liked everything he felt, even the changes in the ways he thought and felt. But did he want to stay like this for the rest of his life?
