My Dear Mrs. Markus,
I wish to express my deepest sorrow in the passing of your Late Husband. We here at Pennyford Stables did appreciate the work he did for us. His daily task was one of true self sacrifice. I'm told that as he worked around with our stable manager his every thought was to give pleasure.
I and the staff can not say enough to offer you the gratitude we had for him. His pleasing manor with people or horses was an example to us all, he will be missed.
I've enclosed a check for $10,000. American dollars which is a token of the life insurance program we have for all who spend their lives with us. I am sorry the amount is not higher, but we give this coverage as a perk and do not charge the staff.
Enclosed are some of his personal items which he must have felt a close attachment. The normal items as his wallet, pictures of his wife and children were kept near him as a constant reminder. I also included his riding croup which he felt the constant need for it's use. His was indeed a life of service to which he never really got in touch with but always kept a stiff upper, you know!
His special friends like Dan, Lilly, Annie, and many others who might have visited the farm for even a short stay, all knew and saw his personal need to please.
Servicing All,
Miss Jane Pennyford
