"Fine!" Lena says having had too much weirdness for the day. "You want to know why I didn't sleep with him? I'll tell you! Because I had considered it. Several times even."
Lena was getting riled up, the whole situation just wasn't making sense and somehow it all came back to her defending her choice to not have me as a sexual partner years ago...
"Do go on." the genie seemed exceptionally interested and seemed to be enjoying her inner fire.
With a final glance back Lena braced herself and unleashed a torrent of verbal daggers that found all my juicy bits.
"He is sweet, and sensitive. He's got that going for him, but that's all. At college he was having troubles grasping the concepts the professor belabored. His interests lied elsewhere as he spent more hours of the night partying than sleeping. let alone studying. From this I concluded that in addition to being slow, he also lacks ambition. I set goals for myself, and while we both started at a community college, I earned a scholarship so I could pursue a law degree. He failed to focus long enough or hard enough to finish his bachelors degree and dropped out after earning his associates in general studies."
Lena took a deep breath, stared back at me with sad but uncompromising eyes, "But that is just the start of it."
A pleased and surprised sound escaped from the genie, he picked the right woman to get all hard-hitting facts, that's for sure.
She looked back at the genie, " I told you I considered it several times; we were close friends and throughout our friendship he blew it again and again, without even realizing, I'm sure. His lack of direction is acceptable, honestly, a woman knows how to stroke a man's ego and still get what she wants. Yet, time and time again, he showed me that he doesn't see value in skills. His car breaks down, the washing machine stops working, even when the faucet is leaking, his first and only response is to call in a professional. He doesn't consider what he is capable of. He doesn't want to be capable! If we were to get pregnant, what value would he be to the household? He has no long term goals, nor would he take initiative to make things better. If we were to have a child, I suspect he'd try to hire a professional father."
With that the genie broke into laughter, it was rich and full of mirth, he really was enjoying this. I wasn't quite having as much fun. Lena couldn't even look in my direction, despite her cutting remarks she is and always was precise and accurate. Though I doubted she had ever recounted her reasonings, I was not surprised by her ability to quickly recall details from years ago and examine her motivations, she always had a quick mind. As difficult as it was to hear, my friend was giving me a quick, 1-2 punch of a therapy session and was right about everything,
"You have made good points bouncy-bosomed one, and these things I can easily rectify!" Lightning began to grow from his hand and spark out.
"No wait!" I screamed, honestly terrified that I will be overrun with ambition and never find satisfaction in my life, ever. The genie had already recreated half of the human species on a whim, what would he do to one man?
"I don't think you're stupid." Lena said slowly as she sauntered toward the genie.
My mouth hit the floor and the genie's head snapped to her. The electricity immediately died and the room fell silent.
"You know that's only half of it." Lena smiled and shot the Djinn a sultry glare.
He sneered and the two of them shared a look for a moment. They were playing mind games with one another, and I was caught in the middle! SHIT!
