Katie had the time of her life that night, and it was the sleepover she had always wanted and dreamed of as a little girl. There were party games like spin the bottle and truth or dare. More than once the group of girls was sent into a tizzy of delighted giggles. As the evening went on, they braided each other's hair and talked about boys in the way that Katie figured fifth and sixth graders would. Despite the late hour, they drank sodas and ate junk food. Yet all the while, Katie remained conscious of her little sister. Kellie hovered around them, and while the little girl was very tired, she insisted on wanting to be a part of things. The other girls weren't so keen.
"Just put your dweeb sister to bed," Claudia complained. "She cant play along she's too little."
"Shut up, Claudia." Mary Elise said. "She's just a little kid..."
Kellie looked on the verge of tears and Katie felt her heart melt. This was her former mother, former big sister after all. In her heart...she loved her very much and she still shared that unique bond. After everything they'd been through, it was her own wishes that had caused all this. She wanted to be fair.
"Come on Kell, you can hang with us a little while ok!"
"Kellie giggled delightedly and joined them. She managed a half hour, just until the girls started into Disney's Cinderella before she fell asleep in Katie's lap. Then, one by one, the other girls followed suit. The room became quieter and soon only Katie was left awake. She smiled to herself as she looked around.
"This is the perfect age," She thought to herself. "I don't ever want to change."
She hoisted Katie up and took her upstairs and entered her old room. Setting the little girl down in her bed, she pulled the blanket over her and smiled. She really was a little angel but katie wanted Kellie back but without the conflicts of being her mother or the irresponsible and bemoaning elder sibling. The two had been very close as twins, and now that she couldn't be grown again, she wanted to share her secret with someone. The best choice...was her new sister.
"I wish Kellie was my younger twin sister again, that we were the best of friends and shared everything together. That she knew about the ring of age, what it does, but not what I had done to her. I wish that she would tell no one else about it, or ever use it against me. I wish that all our house and our possessions would reflect our ages, and that we would be safe and secure without anyone worrying about our well being, never wanting for money or security through the ages. I also wish that I cannot undo this wish, save to change Kellie's age with her own permission."
She waited to see if the ring would react.
