You're watching television when you see this news report . . .
The newscaster says, "Several teenagers disappeared and police are baffled."
The scene switches to the detective on site.
The detective says, "It looks like a break in and there was a struggle but what we can't tell is if it was a kidnapping or a mass murder. The really puzzling thing is that we can't find a single body. Whether they were alive or dead, how were so many bodies removed so quickly and quietly."
The interviewer asks, "Do you have any suspects?"
The detective says, "Not at this time. I really wish I had better news. All the leads we have are turning cold."
The interviewer asks, "Are you saying that you're giving up?"
The detective says, "Of course not, but we are lifting the crime scene tape. There's nothing further for us to find in the gym."
Meanwhile . . .
Coach McGurk speaks to the teenagers just before PE
"Yes, you are going to change in that locker room. I know how you're feeling but the locker room has been repaired and cleaned up. Extra security has been added to the back door. We can't let fear paralyze us. We have to move forward."
One of the boys asks, "Coach, what about the new athletic equipment?"
Coach says, "That was the most baffling part of the case. No one knows where it all came from but the police checked it all out and found nothing wrong with any of it so it all belongs to the school now. Why would criminals bring a bunch of athletic equipment with them and leave it behind? I suppose we'll never know. It does not make up for the crime but we do have a new diving board in our swimming pool and a new whirlpool."
