Upon arriving at the council location, magically hidden to humanity, you saw something unexpected: They were faced by a teenage boy.
"But I fled like the coward I now know I was! Abandoning her to her death! If only I defended her…" Said the teenager, crying.
"… You will be dead." Answered one of the council member. "One of them would have been more than enough to kill you, and they were six of them. Entering that fight wouldn't have let your girlfriend escape, and so it wouldn't have been bravery, but only foolishness. If fact, your 'cowardice' not only saved your life, it also saved your girlfriend's life."
"Wha… What do you mean?" Asked the boy.
"It happened in my sisterhood sector. I was here when it happened." Pursued the same counselor. "When you fled, they stopped for a short wile, taking the time to laugh at you. Enough of it to let me intervene. She was so hurt, saving her required to make a sister, a fellow siren, out of her. But that only mean she need you more than ever. Isn't it better to feed a mermaid by loving her?" Then added. "And stop blaming yourself, because she don't. We don't know how you learned about sirens and how they feed, but if you promise to never reveal their existence, regardless of what this secret will ever cost you, I will take you to your girlfriend. Just wait here during the rest of tonight session, ok?"
Now happy, or at least happier, the teenage boy nodded before sitting himself on a rock around were the counselor pointed to.
Then another counselor spotting you, declared. "We seem to have a busy night tonight! You're high-sister Selene, aren't you? Why did you came to us so soon before the birth? I hope that man of yours didn't abandon you!"
"You… You know me, counselor?" Asked your wife, dumbfounded. "I… No, no, he didn't abandon me. But his path crossed Florencia's, and she turned him into one of us." That caused the entire council to whisper, their face covered with shocked expressions, if not scandalized ones.
A third counselor spoke, then. "The council in it's entirety will be saddened by that news. We hope it isn't too late to reverse the conversion of sister Michael. But before, the current session must confess something to you. When the council forbade you from informing your husband of your true nature, it wasn't only because of old laws. In fact, said law were only a pretense. The council was working on a way to let you fully assume your duties as head-sister without withdrawing from your human one. We only didn't want your husband to know before we were ready."
"Re… REALLY? Why?!?" Asked your dumbfounded wife.
At this, that counselor responded with a smug smile "Because of your gynecologist. She to found a man who love her, regardless of the fact she's a siren. A man who not only happen to be my father, but also the first and only trusted to be male." She even added. "Speaking of head-sister Julia, thanks to being herself a mermaid she knew you were a siren as soon as she started examining you. After that, my head-sister took upon her to make you acknowledged as a head-sister. The council started it's little project about your husband and you long before your pregnancy, head-sister Selene."
Then, addressing you, the same counselor asked "Sister Michael, do you promise to forever keep the true nature of your wife and your future daughter, along with the existence of sirens, a secret, whatever the cost?"
Determined, you responded "I promise to, counselor."
"Good. Now say everything that happened, since the second you encountered head-sister Florencia, spare no details. And be as accurate as possible, specially about the hours of your transformation and feeding." So you did, helped by both Elizabeth and Selene.
When you finally ended your recollection, and a short deliberation between the counselors and their trusted, the verdict was…
