My name is <James/Bethany> I'm a tough <boy/girl> The Totem Curse was a story I heard around the campfire at summer camp when I was a kid. The story goes as such.
"White man came to fight, taking our lands. They attacked without remorse. Our ancestors placed a curse on the lands. They told the white man, "If you attack our lands a second time, the curse will be awaken." But the warriors did not believe them. For they attacked once more. As the elder said, it happened. Each man who attacked became animals depending on the totem they were born under. Otter, Owl, Goose, Salmon, Raven, Snake, Falcon, Wolf, Deer, Bear, Woodpecker, and Beaver were the animals. Once their changes were done, the elder came forward and told them, now that they are animals, part of the world as animals, now they shall be hunted as they hunted for lands to conquered. And to this day, our leader said, the curse stands. For whoever attacks the land or the people who live on it, shall become these animals."
I asked him, "Are these real or are they just stories?"
He smiled and said, "They are what you think they are. I can't make you believe. But having a little bit of caution, can't possibly hurt, now can it?"
I answered. "No it would be wise to be cautious."
Soon I would stand up and share the story with my camp mates. They thought it was a joke but I advised caution. What no one knew was that the curse could have changed as time passed. I went up and I was a mean boy by some standards but I am not the one to go piss off some spirits. I would walk over to the cafeteria and soon I would walk up and my toughness of being big got the better of me and I pushed the kid in front of me into a plate of food. Little did I know I just triggered the curse on myself. That night I went to bed and drempt of becoming one of the twelve animals. I woke up with a start but went back to bed.
