It was 6 AM when all of the sisters awoke to the sound of their rooster's crow. They all got dressed for work and the youngest three waited as Emily and Mary prepared breakfast. It was just as Emily set down a plate of eggs and bacon that they heard three quick, loud knocks on the door.
"Delivery for Emily Adams!" yelled the voice behind the door. Emily quickly ran and opened the door, to find the delivery man standing with his clipboard and pen next to a fairly large white box with the EcoSync logo on each side.
"Just sign here so the company knows you got the package and all the instructions you need are in the box." he explained, handing Emily the clipboard. She immediately signed and gave the clipboard back, thanking the man for bringing the package.
"No problem at all ma'am. Now good luck and happy farming!" he said, tipping his hat, and proceeded to walk back to his truck and drive away.
Emily brought the remarkably heavy box inside where her sisters had just finished eating breakfast.
"So this is it? The box with the serum?" asked Natalie.
"I don't know if we should do this, Emily; the whole thing seems kinda fishy to me." said Millie.
"Aw well, whether it works or not, they promised us ten grand a year. Besides, think of how good it'll be for us if it does work." argued Mary.
"Alright! Let's do this so we can go outside already!" cried Ellie, who seemed to be the most excited out of them all.
Emily grabbed a knife and cut open the package. Inside there was a vast assortment of vials filled with different colored fluids and all labelled with the names of various different farm animals. She took them all out and set them on the table. At the bottom of the box was a set of instructions.
"I found the instructions." Emily said, fingers trembling from excitement and nervousness. She read aloud:
"To the Emily Adams family, in this box you will find an assortment of multicolored phials each of which contains a certain kind of serum inside. As promised, the serum will, once ingested begin reactions within the subject's body in order to allow them to perform their farm duties much more efficiently and pleasantly than they have ever experienced. Feel at one with your animals for the first time in your life. Now here are the details:
Drink only a table-spoon of one serum. Drinking any more is a waste.
Do not mix serums. Doing so will hurt, believe us.
The effects occur half-an hour after ingestion.
The effect is permanent until the Counter-Serum is drunk.
If you follow those simple rules, then we won't have any problems. If you have any questions dial the number below. Good luck, happy farming, and remember to tell everyone at the Farmer's Market about the joy of EcoSync!"
And that was it, the following pages were a set of legal guidelines followed by health information and a list of everything that was included in the box. There seemed to be no negative side effects. The sisters put all of the vials on the kitchen table, organized by animal. None of them found a counter-serum, however, and it seemed to be excluded from the list as well.
"Maybe it's something we have to make?" thought Millie. "Besides, there are no side effects, so why would we want to go back?"
"Who wants to go first!? Who wants to go first!?" Ellie started yelling, jumping up and down, excited.
After looking back and forth at each other for a while, one of them spoke up.
