Samantha knew what must be done. Though every ounce of her adult self screamed at her for what she was about to do, to give up, she had to now.
"Jake, wait right here, ok?"
The gawky boy nodded and Samantha got up and ran over to an empty phone booth. Not knowing how to use a cell phone, she put in some money and dialed Katies. She heard it ring a few times before it clicked on.
"Hello?"
"Katie, it's Sammy. Listen ... I ... I know I've been really staunch when it comes to the growing up and being little thing. But... I understand now. I want it now. I want to be a kid."
There was a pause on the other end. "Sammy? Are you joking?"
"No, I'm dead serious. Please...use the ring, change me and Jake to kids, and let us grow up naturally. Please! I want to have him, he's my soul mate.... and I want us to enjoy a whole new life together."
Samantha could almost see Katie and Mary smiling on the other end. Then she heard Katie speak again. "Do you want him to know?"
"No, just me...."
Katie paused and then Samantha heard her again. "I wish that Samantha and Jake were naturally 14 years old, that they had the lives they would as fourteen, but that only Samantha and my friends who I have changed would know her old life and remember it. I wish everything that she belonged would change too as a result."
