Transform or Dare?

best fair weather friends forever

added by Benny 9 years ago O

Author's note: I'm having a hard time keeping tenses straight. Apologies. Also, I've been doing a lot of telling instead of showing. Mmh, what can you do? It's a smut site. Also, I'm not super familiar with american school, so forgive me if I make something different.

---

I grabbed my bag and hurried downstairs. How was I going to explain my change of heart to Jess and Julia? They didn't have siblings coming to cry on their shoulders. Jess was an only child, and Julia the youngest by 10 years; they wouldn't understand what it's like for your little brother to sob into your shoulder, they wouldn't have any personal experience with what our victims go through.

I walk out the front door and get into Julia's car. She's the richest of the three of us - not a tall order - as she's had a job at McDonald's for a few months. None of our parents give us allowance money; it was a big reason we started stealing lunches from other kids in elementary.

"Hay gurl, what's up?" Jess said, as I got in the back seat with her. "Why are you barefoot?"

Oh, that's right. I had already forgotten. "It's just a dare some kid gave me. Something this easy? Pff, I'm not chicken."

"Yeah, well," Julia said as she drove us away, "Someone, and I'm not like naming any names here, may have broken glass bottles in several classrooms." Jess snickered. Julia grinned, and continued, "so today might not be the best day for a dare. Your loss, sister."

I groaned, and they both chuckled again. Why did they have to pick today to make it unsafe to be barefoot?

---

The bell was ringing. I scribbled down the last line of my answer, turned in my paper, and bolted. I'd been trying to avoid Jess and Julia ever since we got to school, and they were in the next class in this room. I didn't want to be with them when we went to lunch, so I wouldn't have to explain talking to Kyle.

It was now the end of fourth period. Lunch was at the end of fifth; only one more to go before my big apology. I'd had a couple of amused comments about being barefoot, but nobody seemed to care much - and my, it was comfortable. I almost wondered if the town curse was real and Kyle really had given me superfeet! I hadn't noticed any glass on the floor yet, but maybe I'd just be picking it out of my feet at lunch. I shudder at the thought.
