I could see it, in her face, that she didn't want to put me in harms way. It was almost comforting to think that, to a certain extent, Keru actually cared for me.
"Fine," she said. "but you can only help on my terms."
She looked out the window and continued "If it gets to a point where your life is in danger, you will have to leave me. Furthermore, you will obey what I say, no matter what."
I was slightly let down by her reluctance, but I did agree.
She sighed, and said "You should know that I am not doing this out of love for you." Keru paused. "It is because I don't want to have to bury you."
Slipping under the covers, she turned to face away from me, and we both went to sleep.
