"I don't know what game you're playing at," Tivus starts out, the suspicion in his fiery eyes still obvious, "but I guess I'll believe you for now. Just remember, Vin, I killed that body once; I can do it again."
You know Tivus speaks the truth, but since he killed Gorvind with poison, his bravado rings more of bluster. Still, you'd rather not have to test every item you eat or drink in case you happened to be on Tivus' bad side. One death was enough, even if you do have a few more lives left. You decide to let his commentary pass, and move on to more pressing business.
"Okay then, Tivus," you begin diplomatically, "...where the hell are we?"
"We're about thirty miles north of Evrudi, on the banks of the Devis," Tivus states matter-of-factly.
Snatches of insight from Gorvind's memories remind you that Evrudi is a large village, and Devis a river, but you have no point of reference to make sense of those facts. You give Tivus an overtly blank look, retorting, "And that's supposed to mean something?" You sigh, and continue, "Let's start at the beginning. What world is this?"
Tivus narrows his eyes at you, and it is apparent that he is slowly beginning to realize that even if your story was not the truth, you are not lying about knowing nothing about this world. You know that he is considering the obvious: whether to only tell you things about this world that would work to his advantage. Before he can respond, you raise a large hand to stop him.
"Before you start, let me remind you of what I said. I have Gorvind's memories, so I wouldn't advise trying to lie to me. You probably wonder why I don't know anything about this world if I have his memories. Let's just say they're a bit jumbled up right now. The more interaction I have with this world, the clearer the memories become. Therefore, I should be able to confirm everything you tell me, since it should clear up the mental fog. Knowing that, please continue, " you finish with a rather toothy grin.
Tivus manages to keep from looking too disconcerted, but the anger and coldness in his eyes is still there. His hatred for Gorvind has been plainly evidenced, and the fact that you hold his memories probably does not work in your favor. Nevertheless, at least you both now know where you stand.
"This is the world of Ovardis," Tivus says, almost as though he were reciting a lesson. "We are on the continent of Honvar, which has many nations. The biggest and most powerful country is Linvallis, of which you..." he pauses and gives you a sideways glance, "...I mean, LORD GORVIND... is the highest-ranked general. He controls all the armies, and has conquered many smaller nations for Linvallis. His power is only outmatched by his brutality, " Tivus sneers, "and his troops have ravaged the land. Since the King of Linvallis has no sons, and only a daughter, rumor is that Lord Gorvind is angling for the crown. I wouldn't be surprised if Gorvind beheaded the king to get it," Tivus concludes, disgust dripping from his words.
You don't bother taking offense at Tivus' words since you are not Govind, and his actions are not yours. Anyway, you're too busy trying to make sense of the flashes of memory that punctuate everything Tivus tells you. "Gorvind the Terror, huh?" you mutter to yourself in response to one of the tidbits you have managed to mine from Gorvind's past. No wonder everyone hates him, you think to yourself. Except for the army, apparently. So, what do I do now?
Tivus is still glaring at you, and you know you have to formulate a plan of action. You need Gorvind's status and power right now to keep yourself and Tivus safe, at least until you can understand this world better. Therefore, you should act as Gorvind would, so no one will be suspicious, right?
"Okay, Tivus, here's the plan," you finally start, "We are going to...
