Brittany's mom raced into to her room followed closely by her sister and slowly by her father. Brittany was in hysterics, crying and hyperventilating and by the time her dad showed up, her mom and sister were on the bed trying to comfort Brittany and calm her down.
"It's ok."
"It is not that bad, you look good." Brittany's sister Patti said trying to be supportive
"How is this ok? You’re not the one who's a clown?" screamed Brittany between gasping for breath
No attempt to calm her down worked and she almost passed out several times, finally Dan her dad said that they needed to call a ambulance. When the paramedics arrived they found the situation very amusing a teen a clown panicking and could not hold back their laughter. Brittany already in a fragile state got even more upset at being laughed at and finally did pass out. The family followed her to the ER and talked to the doctor after they gave Brittany some meds to calm her down.
"We gave your daughter some valium to calm her down; you can take her home in about an hour." The ER doctor said in a brisk matter of fact tone.
"No, you don't understand. She can't take this; she'll just wake up and have another panic attack. There has to be something you can do for her?" her mom pleaded
"I'm sorry miss but this is something that she is going to have to deal with, she is a clown now. I can recommend a psychologist." Again the doctor answering quickly trying to get out of the conversation and go on break.
"There is no treatment that can reverse this?"
"No, nothing has been approved for reversing a change like this." There was a pause and the doctor knew he was caught and he was not going on break anytime soon. He waited for the question from the family.
"So there is a unapproved treatment?" Sighing the doctor sat down and got ready for a long explanation.
"There is a very experimental treatment that is going into treatment. Since the virus changes the DNA a close same gender relative can donate some of their DNA to try and modify the DNA back to normal. This usually would works with a twin of the same gender but they think the similar DNA markers of a close relative might change enough of it back to revert the change."
"We will try that." Dan said without thinking
"It is expensive and the effect and results are unknown. You have to get FDA and hospital board approval."
"We don't care our daughter can't stay like this."
"We will do it"
At the prospect of a cure Brittany was able to calm down but she still would not go outside and spent most of the time in her room. After a long approval process, Susan donated some blood and it was process and inserted into a retro virus and administered to Brittany. The effects were slow but color eventually return to her skin, her nose started to deflate and the root of her hair started to show a normal color.
