"Wait mom," Katie exclaimed. "Let's not do anything drastic." Kellie looked at her daughter curiously. "I don't think we have a lot of options," she said. "You should go to work for me and I'll go to school for you, hopefully that way I can grow up for good."
"Mom," Katie said. "I don't know the first thing about being a lawyer. What happens if I mess up, what if I get you fried. This could turn out really bad." Kellie looked at her daughter curiously. "Well what do you think we should we do."
Katie was now frantically trying to come with an idea. She had no desire to go to work and be an actual adult, she just wanted to spend some time with her mom. Suddenly an idea formed in her head. "Mom what if you went to work like you are now."
Kellie looked at her daughter with an incredulous look that could only be pulled off by a teenage girl. "You can't be serious," she said dryly. "Kellie O'Toole, teenage attourney it sounds like a bad sitcom."
"Mom," Katie said quickly. "What if that's part of the magic. What if your meant to work as a teenager."
"Katie that makes no sense," Kellie exclaimed. "Why would whatever's doing this want me to work as a high school junior."
Katie shrugged. "I don't know mom," she said. "I didn'tt this but it's better than me faking being a lawyer or you going back to the first grade. Besides I can help you just in case you start getting younger again."
Kellie looked herself over in the mirror. She had no desire to be that young again, sighing she looked at Katie. "Okay fine," she said. "Let me try and get dressed but what are you going to do about school."
"Don't worry mom," Katie said smiling. "I'll take care of school you just find something to wear."
As Kellie now looked for an outfit Katie made her way downstairs. She had bought herself a little time with here mom while she formulated a plan. Quickly she called the school pretending to be Kellie. After giving an excuse that Katie was sick today she began to wonder what to do about mom. An idea formed in her head as she made her wish.
"I wish that no one at moms job or at court would see that my mom was 17 against and would see her as she usually was." Katie felt the ring warm and now hoped the wish would work.
"Okay Katie how do I look," Kellie said. Katie turned and looked at her mom. Kellie was dressed in a conservative jacket and skirt. The charcoal jacket and skirt were a little ill fitting on the skinny teen but was functional. She decided on a pair of 3 inch heels and black nylons to complete her outfit. The heels were a little large as the teen girl wobbled slightly. Finally she had put her hair up giving herself a more mature look. Along with the makeup she had applied Kellie looked like a college girl instead of 17.
"You look really nice mom," she stated honestly. "That outfit makes you look older."
Kellie slowly made her way to the mirror and sighed. "Yeah maybe a little but I still look twenty years younger than I'm supposed to be."
"Don't worry mom," Katie said with a smile. "I'll be there to help you."
Kellie smiled weakly as she adjusted her outfit. "Okay but you need to get dressed and make sure it's something nice please I do work here and people are going to want to know who you are."
Katie nodded and ran back to her room. Finding an outfit she changed it quickly into a nice blouse and a pair or khaki pants. Finding a pair of flats Katie looked herself over. She looked like a teenage girl going on a job interview. "I think this should do," she said as bounded out the room.
The drive to Kellie's law firm was quiet as Kellie drove. Katie had never been to her moms work and wondered what it was like. Looking at her mom Katie could see the stress she was under. Kellie was clenching the steering wheel tightly and muttering under her breath. Katie could hear bits and pieces of her moms ravings as she seemed to constantly refer to herself as "Doogie Howser". Katie didn't know what she was talking about and only tried to reassure her that everything would be alright. Kellie looked over and gave Katie a weak smile before returning her attention to road.
As the two teens pulled into the parking lot Kellie looked to her daughter with a look of concern. "So are you ready for this?" She asked. Katie nodded. "It'll be okay mom just tell them I'm your cousin if anyone asks." "What about how I look," Kellie moaned. "I think people are going to notice I'm back in high school." Katie placed a reassuring hand on her mothers shoulder. "I think everything will turn out okay mom," she said. "We'll do this together." Kellie looked at her daughter and smiled weakly. Hopefully today would be a good day.
