Jen was still frustrated when she sat down. Their teacher wasn't in yet and several other girls were chatting about swim practice that evening. Jen wasn't really in the mood to talk and laid her head in her folded arms to avoid eye contact with anyone. She was too angry with Kyle to even think about getting a positive change from one of her classmates.
Just then, someone tapped her shoulder.
“What do you want,” Jen replied without looking.
“Someone feeling a bit cranky this morning?” Beth asked.
“Oh, just a little pissed off at some asshole who screwed up my entire life... No big deal,” Jen said sarcastically.
“Sorry to hear it... I heard you were sick. Nice to see you back in class.” Beth said.
“Today is Coach Whitney’s birthday and us girls were thinking about playing a little prank on her during practice, you in?”
“I think I’ll pass...” Jen replied, a bit surprised that the curse didn't force her to take on the opportunity.
“What are you going to do?”
“Well, she coaches swim team but hardly ever gets wet... We were going to coordinate with some of the other girls to try soaking her during practice. After that we’d bring out a birthday cake.”
“Alex brought a bag of water balloons and we thought each of us could toss them when someone gave the signal...”
“We haven’t worked out all the details yet.”
Jen had to laugh as she imagined the scenario. “That sounds pretty harmless, maybe I will join you.”
Beth was about to share more details when their instructor stepped into the room.
He turned towards her and said “Beth, find your seat.”
Once everyone was settled in, class began...
