Fred was waiting for her. She hopped in the car without saying a word.
“How was swim practice?” He asked.
“It was fine.” She replied.
“Anything interesting happen?” He asked.
“We had a surprise birthday party for the coach.” Jen said.
“Oh that’s nice.” Fred replied.
“How was school?”
“It’s been a long day, I’d rather not talk about it.” She said, cursing herself for having such a cold shoulder.
“OK...” Fred replied.
The rest of the ride was quiet. They made it home shortly after 5:30. Jen could smell something cooking as she came through the front door.
Her sister was watching some cartoon show in the living room. In the kitchen, her mother was checking a tray of lasagna in the oven.
Still in her bikini, but no longer wrapped in the towel, she walked into the kitchen.
“Hi mom”
“Oh, hi Jen. How was swim practice?” She replied.
“It was great, we threw a surprise party for Coach Whitney. It was her birthday today.” Jen said.
“That’s nice. I see they finally replaced your swim suit. Why did they put a hole down there?” Her mom said, gesturing towards her groin.
“Is it inappropriate?” Jen asked, testing the curse.
Her mom assumed she was referring to what had happened that morning and said, “Inappropriate? Don’t start that again!”
“I suppose it does look a bit tight around your chest.”
“Yea, they must have made a mistake on my measurements. I’ll ask them about it tomorrow.” Jen replied, not wanting to push the issue.
Even without a breast hanging out, the raised lips didn’t seem to phase anyone.
“Guess short-shorts are still an option,” she thought.
“Go upstairs and change. Supper will be ready soon” Her mom said.
“Ok,” Jen replied, then left for her room...
