There was a burst of light and energy from the ring. Kelly and Katie leaped apart from each other. The ring dropped a bit, but then floated in a tiny glowing bubble of light.
Katie opened her mouth and said, "Maa!"
That was all she could say, "Maa, maa, maa, maa, maa...."
Her panicked bleating was quickly followed by coarse hairs sprouting all over Katie's face, arms and legs - and places hidden by her clothing. Two horns sprouted from her head. She tried to grasp the floating ring, but her hands had fused into hooves. She dropped to all fours and started to shrink within her clothes.
"What's happening?" gasped Kelly.
A voice behind her said, "I believe you wished she was kid, and now she is a kid. A baby goat. I take it you're her mother."
Kelly turned and opened her mouth, and raised her hand. She did not speak for fear what would come out of her lips. She saw her hand was fusing into a hoof.
"A kid needs its mother for milk," said the voice.
Kelly had been curious who had spoken, but now her full attention was on her changing hands and arms. Goat hairs sprouted. She felt horns pushing up through her hair. Her daughter bleated hungrily for her.
She turned to look at Katie. A small female goat was standing in the remnants of Katie's clothing, and absently chewing on the blouse as it bleated for milk.
"Maa!"
Kelly dropped to all fours and replied, "Maa."
The speaker sighed, "Imprecise wishing begets precisely unwanted consequences." Then the voice added, "Tsk, tsk. If you ladies ever break that spell, and find yourselves offered a magic wish again remember to be precise. Such as I wish I was- oops that ring is still glowing. After we get that thing contained, I will explain proper wishing technique."
"Maa!" "Maa!" the goat mother and kid bleated in unison.
