Troy walked by the old magic shop. It had been a favorite stop of his for as long as he could remember but then five years ago, the magic shop went out of business and the place was boarded up. Troy noticed over the years that the magic shop kept deteriorating. Vandals had broken in on several occasions and there were fresh barricades every few weeks to keep people out.
Troy reminisced about all the fun things the magic shop sold. They sold more than just magic. They sold gag gifts, strange toys, costumes, and the weirdest stuff imaginable. Troy was an aspiring stage magician who spent most of his allowance at the magic shop. But that was the past. He started to walk on.
Then he noticed in the alley next to the shop, huge piles of old magic shop merchandise. Then he noticed the sign that said the magic shop had been sold. All the clues indicated that the new owners cleared out the old merchandise and just left it in the alley, free to take. Troy poked through the old merchandise.
He saw a golden box. It was probably just covered in gold foil but it felt too solid to be plastic. There were instructions on the box:
1. Write a word.
2. Put in box.
Troy was curious. He found some nearby pieces of paper and a marker that probably went with the box. He wrote down a word and put it in the box.
Immediately he felt sick to his stomach. His stomach seemed to be trying to rip out of his body. The pain was immense.
The violent shaking spread until his whole body was convulsing. He collapsed on the ground.
Then it seemed the world around him was shaking too. He thought it was just him until he saw things start falling around him. Even the buildings started to crumble. The old magic shop next to him collapsed into a heap of rubble but the shaking did not stop. The shaking just got worse.
