Mad Science

A mutual decision

added 8 years ago O

Kevin opened his mouth to respond, but he was quickly loosing the will to argue with this brother. Kevin closed his mouth, and after several moments, opened it again to speak. "Mike, this is pointless to argue. We don't know which way leads to our freedom or to more... choices." Mike shrugged his shoulder and looked away. Kevin bit his lip, an anxious habit of his. He hated arguing with his twin, especially like this. It wasn't like they could walk away from each other to cool down from their anger. "Look, we can discuss this later. It is a moot point now on whether we choose to leave or hope for the best if we stay. Both doors look the same!"

Mike took a deep breathe, with little resistance from his twin this time. At least the argument managed to somewhat synchronize their breathing, so they weren't fighting against each other for air. "Kevin..." Mike started. He felt the nails of his hand digging into his skin; he hadn't realized that he had been squeezing his fist so tightly. Mike slowly relaxed the right hand and tried to start again. "I just want to get out... I..." The snake situation had really gotten to him. The fear of almost being eaten really held him tightly.

Looking into Mike's blue eyes, Kevin saw the fear, evident in them. It hurt to see his brother so scared. "Mike... as soon as the closest opportunity arrises, we'll get out. I promise we'll get out. Whether we're... stuck like this or not; I promise that we'll escape." Kevin awkwardly wrapped his arm across their broad torso. He lightly gripped his brother's shoulder, what should have been his own right shoulder. Kevin didn't want to remain like this, but... he couldn't see his best friend, his brother like this. "We'll get out, and we'll get this psycho put in jail." It was kind of weird for himself to be reassuring his twin. In their relationship, Mike was usually the one who bolstered his confidence. But, it seemed to work.

Mike turned away from his brother, to hide a tear that he quickly wiped off his face. Turning back, he cleared his throat. "Yeah, we'll get this guy." Mike took another deep breathe. "We'll, since both look the same, let's just pick one." Mike pointed to the right one. "Well, the right door, must be the... right door."

Kevin smiled at his brother's lame joke. "Yeah, sure." The brothers took their time walking towards the door. They still had not adjusted to coordinating their movements in a normal walking fashion. Kevin placed his hand against the wall, to support their weight. When they passed through the doorway, it sealed shut behind them. For a few seconds, it was pitch black. Both boys nervously stood still, expecting the worst, but then a bright light opened at the other end of the long hall way.

"Another room..." Mike whispered, fear evident in his voice. If Kevin wasn't attached to Mike's shoulder, he probably would not have heard his brother. "No where to go but forward." Kevin could tell that his brother was trying to push down his fears, for both of their sakes. If one of them got paralyzed with fear, neither of them would be able to get anywhere. "Let's keep going." Using the walls as support, the two continued down the hallway.

Mike forced Kevin to stop just before entering the room. Inside, they could see that it was empty save for an steel table. On the table were three identical glass, with each vial containing three different colored liquids. One was a cyan like color liquid, with bubbles slowly rising to the surface as if it was some kind of soda. The middle vial was deep purple in color. It seemed to be think, like a syrup. The last seemed to be made of black and light grey liquids. The two colors were swirled around on their own, never mixing together. "Come on Mike, we have to go in there." Kevin said gently, to which his twin nodded. When the brothers stepped through the doorway into the room, the door again sealed behind them. The digitized voice returned.

"Young Men... Welcome to the vial room.
Three choices lay before you...
One will free you from each other...
Another will surely kill you both...
The final will be a fun surprise.
CHOOSE!"
