Lina shot Amy a look of pain and shock as she realized that she was still a mermaid and that she needed water, now.
Amy acted fast, realizing she still had a few old water bottles in the front seat. She began to pour them on Lina's fin, trying to think of what to do. Remembering she had a pool at her house, she realized that would be the best course of action until they could figure out how to really work the necklaces.
Lina squirmed in discomfort as Amy tried her best to drive and pour water on her fin, which clearly wasn't quite enough to stop the pain. "Jesus, h-how much longer..." Lina whispered, finding it incredibly hard to speak. "We're pulling up now", Amy replied.
Amy parked in the garage, pulled the key out of the ignition, and carried Lina to the pool as fast as she could. Lina immediately dived in, and stayed under for around a minute before finally coming up. Amy gave her a look of Disapproval, "I told you to wait until we were in the water", she said. "Well, what's done is done", Lina retorted, "It's not like I died or anything". Lina grabbed for the necklace, realizing that she took it off earlier, "Um...by the way", Lina said, "How long does the magic last, anyways?". "Good question" Amy replied, realizing this is something she should have considered earlier, "Let me see".
After looking studying the necklace for a while and finding no answers, Amy finally took a look at the receipt and couldn't believe what it said. 'WARNING: All changes are permanent".
Feeling nervous, she walked back to Lina, who was curiously waiting at the edge of the pool, wondering how she was going to take the news. "There's no easy way to say this", Amy stated, "The changes are permanent". A look of shock washed over Lina's face. It couldn't be. She was going to be a mermaid forever, there was no going back. Not knowing what to do or how to react, she began to sob, knowing that she was no longer human.
Amy patted Lina on the back, not sure how to comfort her, "Listen", Amy said, "Until we figure something out, you can stay in my pool for a while, at least that can buy us some time before people find out".
Amy's offer didn't comfort Lina at all. She looked up at Amy, "Yea, great!" she yelled in between sobs, "I'll just live in a fucking pool for a while!".
Lina looked down at her tail with a look of pure remorse. She needed water to live now. She was going to be a fish freak for the rest of her life, all because of that magic shop.
