You know you should leave, but your curiosity gets the better of you. You figure you'll just quickly have a closer look, then try to find some people in this mysterious place. Slowly and gingerly, you walk closer to the edge of the pool, then crouch down. Sitting like this, you realize the blob of fur extending above the pool is now at eye-level. While your common sense is screaming at you to get out, you just can't help yourself. Cautiously, carefully, you reach out a trembling finger towards the fur.
The touch is surprisingly soft and warm, almost like poking a furry cat. You stick your index finger in to the first joint, but feel nothing except the gentle caress of the fur. Satisfied that the contents of the pool appear to be non-threatening, you gently pull your hand back, smiling at the novelty. Looking down at your hand, you realize some of the fur must have stuck to the tip of your finger. You use your other hand to brush it off, but despite the light swipe, the fur does not appear to be coming off, or sticking to your other hand. Frowning a bit now, you use your other hand to pinch some of the fur, then in a quick yank, try to tug it off.
"Yeow!" you yelp in surprise. It is obvious the fur is not merely clinging to your finger, and you wonder if there is some strange adhesive mixed in with the fur in the pool. Lifting your finger in front of your eyes, you give it a careful examination. That is when you notice that instead of the fur being stuck on flatly in a mish-mash of directions, as one would expect of glued-on fur, it is actually all stuck only at one end, the other end of each hair being loose. Looking closer, it almost looks like your skin has closed around the end of each individual hair, as though the fur were naturally part of your body.
This takes a second to register, since it should be impossible. With the dawning realization of what has just occurred, you leap to your feet, exclaiming, "Holy....." However, before you can finish your thought, your shoe slips on a bit of fur which has drifted down on the edge of the pool. Naturally slippery on the smooth surface, the fur causes you to lose your balance, and before you can react, you have fallen completely into the pool of fur, sending the blob of fur flying in all directions. Panicking, you flail about, but find no purchase anywhere around you. Not certain which direction is up, you reach about blindly trying to touch a wall or the floor of the pool, unable to see due to the opaqueness of the fur, despite the fact that it is white. You breathe in, and the fur tickles your nose, causing you to sneeze. While you are still terrified, the fur is oddly warm and comforting, and soon you stop struggling, detatched from what is happening to you. Your body involuntarily relaxing, you sink deeper into the soft darkness, one last throught arcing through your mind: "What on earth am I turning into?"
