When he got back to the stable, there was a new and very unusual occupant. Mika heard movement in the back and feared Robin had come looking for him. However, a massive barbarian turned to smile at him from inside one of the largest stalls. Mika was astonished by the obvious size of the fellow, at least until the occupant came out on the four hooves of a Shire stallion. He was a centaur, the biggest such creature Mika had ever seen. From the human face Mika guessed he was in his early 30s, and scars both faded and fresh indicated he had seen a lot of adventures.
"There you are, lad!" He beamed cheerfully. "The Innkeeper sent me out here. Turns out they don't have centaur-sized rooms." He chuckled. "Since you were not here, I took the liberty of moving into this stall. Is that OK?"
Mika smiled and nodded. "Of course, sir!" His relief was short-lived, however, as Robin came in just then.
"Where have you been, boy? I called for you to come in a half hour ago! If this customer had to wait..."
The centaur interrupted quickly "The lad has been an excellent host! See? He has me set up in the finest stall you have. Been very attentive from the moment I set hoof inside."
Robin's anger deflated, though he looked a little suspicious. "Very well. As long as you are satisfied." Then he jerked his head, indicating that Mika was to come outside.
Following his master, Mika felt nervous. Had the Innkeeper found out about his leaving after all?
Robin glanced back to make sure the centaur was not listening. "There is a cupboard in the back of the stable with powders, salves and brushes. Use the brown salve to heal the scars on his hooves and skin. Put a handful of the yellow powder in a bucket of water and wash him all over. I do mean everywhere! Then use the black-handled brush to heal the marks on his hide and finish out the grooming." The Innkeeper smiled. "Very nice, isn't he? I don't want you using your magic on him."
Mika nodded and smiled back, relieved. "Yes, sir!"
The Innkeeper tousled his hair. "It might change his nature. Keep grooming him with the black brush. He'll enjoy it very much, and we'll have a fine young stallion when you are done."
"Sir!?" Mika was surprised.
"No complaints, Boy!" Robin gestured to the stable. "Now, back inside and get to work. You have a job to do!"
