I looked around me, at the people standing around me. Humanoid, yes, but not human. They were brooding, screaming, pleading, but for the most part, they just sat on the floor, awaiting their fate. And I was one of them.
I took a step forward, and tripped over my feet, now twice as large as before. I try to get up, but I can't understand what my body is, where everything is. I feel something larger than me grab me by the ears, and it laughs at me. It pushes me to the ground, and it starts attacking. And I can't fight back.
/this isnt my body/
His fists pound against my ribcage
/this isnt my body/
He kicks me in the stomach.
/THIS ISNT MY BODY/
A kick to the groin makes me recoil in pain. Tears well up in my eyes, but they aren't my eyes. They belong to something else, something that used to be called Rick.
/GET ME OUT OF THIS THING/
He's flung to the side. His head makes a crack as it hits the wall. I feel two arms wrap around me, and pick me up. I'm back on my feet, and I see my saviour.
..........
"What the hell's wrong with you? Did you want him to kill you?"
I had just helped some kangaroo like me who was getting beaten by a wolf. Thing is, he didn't try to fight back or anything.
I sized him up. His legs were small, way smaller than mine, at least. He had weirdly long ears, and his hands and feet were pretty large for a kangaroo.
"Look, I know you're afraid, but you can't let someone fuck with you like that, even if you're weak."
He looked into my eyes, with the gaze of someone who'd just witnessed a murder. Confused, I asked if I'd said something wrong.
He stuttered a little, like he'd never spoken before. "R... Ru... Ruby?"
I realized who it was. "Are you fucking with me?" I yelled at the ceiling. "Are you fucking serious?"
Just like Mary, Rick had been transformed to become my mate. They done a shit job, though. He was the saddest excuse for an animal I'd ever seen.
"Damn. They really got you." He inched towards me. "I... I... I can't..."
"Oh stop being drama..." I saw him, bent over the ground. "Please, I don't want to be... a... a..."
"Rick, please, just..." He grabbed my shoulders. "You, you, you did this to me!" He raised his hand and clenched his fist, ready to bring it down upon my face.
He stopped. A look of strange contentment spread across his face. He let out a sigh of relief, and smiled.
"Ruby," He said. "What did you do? That was incredible!" I laughed. "Feels good to be scratched behind your ears, huh?"
"Oh, uh well I..." I put a finger to his lip. "Look, I know what you're going through. I'll help you, alright?"
"Uh, yeah sure..." We put our backs to a wall and sat down together. I shifted a little closer to Rick. "And, you know, maybe after we've sorted stuff out we could..."
"We could what?" I was too nervous. "Never mind."
He shifted awkwardly. A look of realization spread across his face. "Holy shit. I just realized- I have a tail!"
