Blake was a nice guy, one of the nicest guys I'd ever met. However, Blake was also one of the most clueless guys I ever met.
Blake was a genius. He was in college studying engineering and he'd already impressed people with some of his inventions, inventions that baffled many like an invention that turned flowers into aluminum. Unfortunately, most of what Blake invented was useless or impractical.
People had tried to tell Blake what to invent but Blake was oblivious. So people gave up trying to direct him and just let him invent whatever hoping they'd be able to at least use some of his inventions.
Blake's parents made an arrangement with Tony to be Blake's guardian. Tony look after him in exchange for any financial benefits Tony could get from Blake's inventions. For the most part, Tony ignored Blake which made Blake happy. Tony only got involved when Blake was doing something dangerous.
You see, Blake wasn't one of those autistics or one of those savants. He was perfectly able to take care of himself. He would just obsess so much on what he was inventing, that he would have tunnel vision and ignore everything else, including people.
Maybe I'm a sicko but Blake's obliviousness was a challenge to me, a challenge that excited me. I needed Blake's attention. I got attention from other people and that was okay, but for whatever reason, the rare times I got attention from Blake excited me and made me feel special. Part of it may be because I was one of the few people who could get Blake's attention. I was one of the few people who could get Blake to come out of his shell. I did it by spending time helping him with one of his projects warming him up, and then I could get him to go out to watch a movie. He never made any comments about the movie. He never said whether he liked a movie or not but he did give me a slight smile when he saw me, a smile I never saw him give anyone else. Then he'd go back to his gadgets and tools.
Another reason I craved Blake's attention is because he looked good. As much as he obsessed over his inventions, he obsessed over his health, eating healthy and exercising. He looked like an athlete even though he didn't compete in any sport. He didn't even compete in body building because, as he put it, "Those exaggerated muscles are out of proportion to the golden ratio." Then he demonstrated with his own body what the golden ratio was.
He was extremely good looking and not just because he was in proportion with the golden ratio, but because he was blessed with beauty. His hair was like golden honey. His eyes were like sapphires.
Now I'm not so bad looking myself. Blake commented that I was also in proportion to the golden ratio. I did feel self-conscious that he might not be attracted to me because he was such a quiet person but I did have little clues of his attraction. He just couldn't express himself.
I did wonder why such a handsome person would be such an introvert. I at first thought that maybe he got picked on a lot when he was younger and not so handsome. That's what happened to me. I know I'm handsome now but I still feel self-conscious because of what people told me when I was younger. But Blake didn't have that self-consciousness. I met Blake's parents and learned that he had always been good looking. I was shown family picture albums and even as a child, Blake looked amazing.
Blake's parents told me the reason Blake became an introvert is because too many people wanted his attention. They had crowded around him trying to be his friend until they overwhelmed him and burned him out. They told me that Blake needed attention to. He needed someone who would show an interest in Blake. Then I had the key to getting Blake's attention. The more I helped him with his inventions the more he'd give me that special smile of his.
