There were only a few days until summer vacation, and most of the teachers at Thelonius Freud High wanted to close out the year with a bang. However, a select few students were getting a special treat. Their parents had all paid for a one-week field trip to Egypt with Ms. Applegate for their social studies unit, to learn more about their culture first-hand. And you just happened to be one of those lucky students.
After a very long plane trip, you and your fellow students had arrived in Egypt. After leaving the airport, you all had to get on a bus to your hotel, which had rooms the school had paid for. Upon arrival at the hotel, Ms. Applegate explained that tomorrow, you'd all be taking a tour of the pyramids. Soon, you had gotten into your own room, and passed out on the bed.
The next morning, you just barely missed the bus to the pyramids. When you all arrived at the big pyramids, you were all assigned groups to meet with in case somebody got lost. The members of your group included:
-Mike, your computer-whiz friend. If you had a computer problem, he could probably fix it. He had dirt blonde hair and thick rimmed glasses.
-Emily, the self-obsessed popular girl who spent more time staring at her phone than anything else. She was easily recognized by her long, platinum blonde hair.
-Johnny, the jock, who tried out for pretty much every after-school sport imaginable. His defining characteristics were his red hair and muscular build.
-Karen, your shy, artistic friend. You greatly admired her drawings, some of which she made just for you. She looked distinctly Asian, with short black hair.
While you and the rest of the students were being led through a temple, learning the meanings of the hieroglyphics carved in the walls, Emily spoke up.
"This has to be the most boring thing I've ever had to sit through."
"I hear ya, babe," Johnny yawned. "Not the most exciting field trip in the world."
"Well, what did you expect from a school field trip?" Mike added. "At least after this, we'll get to check out all the sights."
"I don't think I can wait that long," Emily whined.
"Well, what do you want us to do about it?" you frowned. "I'm actually taking in this cultural learning experience."
"Uh... guys..." Karen spoke up. "I think we're lost."
Indeed you were. You and your group turned around, seeing everybody else had moved forward during your conversation.
"Well, great, now what?" you complained.
"Hey, guys!" Mike called out. "I think I found something!"
You and the others followed the sound of Mike's voice. You saw him standing next to a door with the a sign reading "Off Limits".
"Whaddaya say we check this place out?" he asked.
"I don't think we're allowed in there..." Karen stammered.
"Oh, come on, nobody's ever going to know!" Johnny replied.
"It certainly beats learning the meaning of dumb scribbles," Emily sighed.
"How about you? What do you think?" Mike asked.
"Well..." you started. You weren't really a rule-breaker, but you were always curious about whatever lied beyond the boundaries of where you were allowed to be.
"I... suppose it wouldn't hurt to look..." you answered.
"Great! Come on!" Mike said as he pried the door open. You and your friends entered the door, and saw it led to a huge intersection of five pathways, enough for each of you.
"Huh, well now what?" you asked.
"I say we stick together." Karen said. "We don't know what's in here..."
"I think we should split up." Johnny suggested. "We'll be able to discover whatever secrets are in here faster."
"Well, what do you think?" Mike asked.
