Wait a moment I think suddenly fighting my need for sleep as I feel her head resting upon my back. Why is she in my cage….or did I get taken out of the cage?
“Beth?” I try asking but the pull of sleep is too strong for me to resist. My last thoughts are having the smell of my girl friend in my nose and wondering why she smells faintly of dog.
“Jude are you going to draw a card?”
“Huh?” I reply dumbly focusing upon Beth only to see a smiling Irish wolf hound bitch holding a pawful of cards in front of her as she sits across from me at a table.
“Jude wake up dude! We are waiting. it’s your turn.” A collie dog says from beside me.
“This means he does not have a very good hand. I think he is just trying to bluff so we fold.” A blue heeler bitch to my right says before raising a mug to her muzzle and loudly lapping into it.
Poker dogs I think suddenly looking around the table at my gathered friends. But no sooner do I focus upon the dream then it fades away like so much smoke. The loud sounds of foot steps wake me as I shift my weight and slowly open my eyes. My nose informs me it’s the doctor coming to see me. But why do I smell Beth…..no the part about her visiting that was just another dream right? I struggle to wake fully and shake the sleep from my fogged thoughts.
