Tommy Chisolm steps out of the minivan, climbing through his siblings from his spot in the back left. He gets out and walks quickly to the bushes at the side of the road, looking around to make sure no-one is on the other side and nothing is in the bushes... also that his lower half can't be seen. Opening up, he relieves himself.
On his way back, his eye is caught by a bright object on the ground. Looking up to make sure nobody sees him (his parents hate it when they grab stuff off the ground), Tom picks it up - a gold pen! - and stuff it into his left jacket pocket. Climbing back into the car quickly so he can take a look, he buckles up. He sits behind Robert (6yrs), next to Susan (12yrs), diagonal from Angela (7yrs).
His Parents, Crystal and Dominick, start driving down the country road again.
Tom grabs his homework workbook and the pen out of his pocket. He shuffles himself into the corner so nobody sees the awesome pen in his possession. He looks at the pen more closely... That is a sweet pen. He could look at it for hours.
Loathe to actually do his homework, he can't think of anything to do with the pen otherwise. Tom opens the right page of his Social Studies work book.
1. What year did Alaska become a state?
A: 1982
2. What year did Hawai'i become the last state to join the Union?
A: 1958
Just as he finished, Robert tosses his toy behind his chair, hitting Tom on the head!
"HEEYYY!" Tom starts kicking Rob's seat, which starts Rob crying!
Crystal turns around from the passenger seat and deathstares Tom, who has dropped the workbook to his lap as quickly stops kicking and sulks.
His mom turned around again, getting something to give Rob to calm him down, Tom grabs the workbook and writes on the back of the cover: Tom has a poopy head.
Simultaneously, a few things happen. Rob's head gets a pile of poop on top of it out of nowhere, the stench reeks and pervades everyone's nose, and Rob redoubles his cries. Crystal sins around again, ready to yell at Tom, but stops short to hold back the nausea. Her eyes tear up.
"Honey, what's going on??" Dom hisses.
"Stop. Stop the car."
Tom is regretting his decision, but absolutely in shock that actually happened.
The van makes it to the side of the road and stops rapidly, Mom gets everyone out of the car and opens all the doors. While Dom starts cleaning, Crystal tries to figure out what happened.
Tom is the obvious suspect, and she marches over. "Turn out your pockets, young man."
The jig is up. Tom complies, not knowing what will happen to the pen but knowing he should have left it in his seat or bag back in the car. He digs in and holds up three pieces of gum, a dollar and forty cents, and the gold pen.
Crystal is a little oddified to find nothing and at the same time this. Taking the pen, she says, "I don't know where you got this, but I'm taking it for now."
The situation is cleaned up and everyone returns to the car.
