From then on, each day was the same. You would wake up next to Bláth, then have food. As she said, you were quite well fed down here. The keepers would throw down fresh meat every morning, noon, and evening. You would spend most of the day napping. Any time you were awake, you would most likely be mating Bláth. This went on for a couple of weeks, until one day you struck up a more meaningful conversation with her.
"You never told me where you were from," you say. It was evening, and neither of the two of you were able to sleep. You were exhausted after yet another mating session, and you were lying flat on your back, with Bláth laying her head on your big, scaly belly.
"Do you really want to know, Aster?" She asks. "Of course I do, sweetie." You reply.
"Well, it all began in Ireland. I was born to Irish Crimsonbacks. I had five siblings. We were all born in the same clutch. But, my kind were being hunted by humans. There were two different groups coming for us. The Hunters, who were trying to kill us as they were afraid of what we could do. And The Collectors, who live here on this zoo. The Collectors were good. At least, they were better than The Hunters. My family and I... We got... Separated. And The Collectors found me. My family... They were... Killed..." You could see that she was beginning to cry. You put your arm around her, and nuzzle her affectionately. "I'm so sorry," you say. "Bláth... I'm glad I found you."
"It's just that," she mutters, "You're the first person I have ever said this to..." You hold her even more tightly after hearing her say this.
Suddenly, you hear her groan in pain. "Oh my goodness," she exclaims. "What? What is it?!" you say back, worry in your voice.
"I don't think we'll be alone much longer... I think I'm about to lay eggs!"
A smile come across your face. You? A dad? To a clutch of baby dragons? If you were told any of this were about to happen to you five weeks ago, you would have thought you were going crazy!
The two of you cuddle for the rest of the night, excited for what was to come!
