Perfect Penmanship

added by Kingdom Come 8 years ago A

Dave contemplated what to do next as he drove home from work. Jenny was sitting shotgun, sticking her head out the window happily. He couldn't believe that she used to be so mean to him. However, it wasn't right to turn a woman into a dog. It was inhumane. He had to fix this. Heck, even the jokes he had written down were having odd side effects. He thought about just writing that everything was back to normal, but who knew what the pen would consider as "normal." Then he decided to just turn everything back to the way it was this morning. As he arrived home though, he changed his mind. He let his border collie out of the car, while he thought. If he hadn't found this pen, then he wouldn't have gotten that promotion. Hell, with this pen, he could do whatever he wanted! He could be king of the universe if he wanted to!

He was so lost in thought that he almost didn't notice Jenny peeing on the fire hydrant. That snapped him back to his senses. This pen was like a genie. Anything that he wrote down could have unintended side effects. He petted Jenny again. He realized that he was starting to think of her as a dog more than a human. If he was right, and that everyone thought of her as a dog, then that would mean that he would think of her as his dog. This was going to get complicated. He had to think logically about this.

He decided to focus on Jenny's plight as a sort of practice run. If he could write something so unambiguous that it would have no side-effects for her, than he could handle making larger wishes. He brought her inside the house as he went to the kitchen to think. His first thought was to just write "Jenny is no longer a dog." However, who knows what that would turn her into. He could write "Jenny is a human." That wouldn't work either. Everyone would still think she was a dog, including Jenny herself. Well, maybe he could write that Jenny remembered who she was. Then she would appear naked in his living room. He didn't think that would go over well with her. He supposed he could put in enough clauses to make it work though. However, the magic of the pen had already corrupted him. He couldn't stop thinking of her as his dog. It felt weird for him to change her back. It would be as weird as changing his next-door neighbor's cat into a human. He knew that wasn't logical, but he couldn't help thinking that way. He needed to write something, before it would be too weird to write anything. He sat down, and wrote...
