Calm, focus on peaceful thoughts….walking threw the mall with friends I mentally tell myself. My growls slowly changing to a silent snarl as my eyes lock on the doctor’s throat and my minds eye paints a picture that brings a shudder to me. “What…no!” The savage thoughts and craving to tear out a human throat like a cold shower as I shudder and snap out of my bout of instinctive rage.
“Ah!” The doctor replies writing quickly in his log book while pausing every few moments to look at me once more before writing in a rapid short hand once more. “Very interesting! Did you see how the subject reacted when his mate was thought to be in danger Nurse Sims?”
“A worthy subject for the project it seems. But of course the male is only this good because of being under your expert care.” She replies smiling and turning to meet his eyes.
I watch her open flirting starting to feel a bit sick at just how much the nurse is working to curry the favor of my doctor. But if this keeps me and Beth out of the doctor’s attention then I will not complain. “Beth? Can you hear me?” I whisper trying to make it so the medical personal do not hear.
“Sims, the subjects. We need to keep our focus on the project.” The doctor states briskly dashing my hopes of a plan of escape. “The male is clearly responding better with female company present. Do you agree nurse?”
Worried about Beth I focus on her and tune out the human conversation for the moment. But suddenly I find myself lifting nose up taking a deep sniff not sure what has grabbed my attention. Ears perking I can hear something out in the hallway. Sniffing one more I know it’s the other nurse returning. But it was not the arriving human that got my nostrils quivering. I look towards the door seconds before it opens.
“Ok now people the sire scents her so stay sharp. You all know your jobs and have been trained how to handle the subjects so I want no mistakes..”
My eyes narrow at the words of the doctor but I can not look away from the large bitch Irish wolf hound that stands in the doorway on leash with the nurse. A pink collar graces her neck just like the one they put on Beth. Her tail begins to wag once she sights me. Or did she simply smell me I wonder trying to remember what little I know about this breed of dog. Do they track by sight or scent I wonder trying to picture the dog book I have at home.
“Notice how closely the sire is watching her? This moment is very important so nurse Horn slowly walk the bitch around the borders of the room. Let her scent fill the room and our sire get use to her. As we do not wish to rush things if they are to both affect one another.” The doctor instructs in a firm tone. “Nurse Sims please put the new female subject in her cage. She will most likely sleep at least twenty four hours while the drugs spread threw her system. Oh and measure the tail stub that has started to form. As it seems the process works faster on females. As if we are lucky she will have a full grown tail before she even awakes. I can hardly wait to see what other parts of her change next.”
“Beth!” I whine softly listening to the doctor talk about my girl friend as if she was no longer human. But I can not even look to see if Beth is ok as the pacing bitch commands my attention. Her full bodied tail raised in a confident position as she gives me measuring looks. Her eyes lack the dull dim witted look of most dogs I have seen. Obedient to the human handler the bitch could easily win any dog show I find myself thinking. My eyes roaming her well muscled flanks even as my quivering nostrils drink in her female musk. I can smell her as if she was standing next to me and some how I know she is in both good health and ready to take a mate. But at the same time I sense this female will not allow just any dog near her tail. God help me I find myself wanting to court her favor.
