Something he'd heard back in the bar came back to Jason and he pushed back inside. Tina looked over and chuckled. "Already tired of being a kid?"
Jason shook his head. "I was wondering what the Lock does?"
She scowled at one of the patrons, probably the one who had mentioned it before, and then said "It's pretty much what it sounds like. The potions only last a night. Unless you take the lock, and then they are permanent, at least unless you take another potion."
"That doesn't sound like a big deal." Jason looked down at himself. "Might even be good to try this a few days instead of one night. I'm too young to be able to do much at night."
Tina raised an eyebrow. "Well, the lock has some side effects that might not be so much fun. Like making everything normal. For the small changes most people go for, it's no big deal. But you went for a biggie. You're a kid by yourself - you don't belong here. You'll find yourself in a place that fits your age. Maybe a nice bedroom. More likely an orphanage, or even sleeping homeless on the street somewhere. A real identity with records will start to show up. And by the end of the week, you could be the kid with no memory of your real past."
Jason blinked. "Wow! That's pretty amazing! So, I could try it a day or two and see what kind of new life the magic puts together for me?
She sighed and nods, then reached under the counter and offered Jason a small vial of blue liquid. "This is it. Just don't wait too long to come back, or whatever you end up with is for real. You probably won't even remember this place to come back to."
He took the vial and opened it, then grinned and tossed it back. It was bitter and made him cough, but he got it down.
