The gods had become disillusioned with humanity. Humanity has ceased evolving. And was no closer to harmony with itself. They would now begin to decide which species should take their place.
But with the last trace of magic in the world, from an old jewel that only had an odd sparkle now and again, brought to life a doll and a plushie. Who knew their kind would be destroyed if humans vanished. But there was a loop hole.
If humans were turned into living dolls and living plushies, in anthro animal forms, they would circumvent the gods decision, as they would technically count as a new species. Sadly, toys could not communicate with humans, this was a basic law of creation. So it would seem to the humans that the toys were trying to conquer the world and destroy humanity instead of save humanity in the way that counted.
The plushie, Foxy, a toy plushie red fox with black 'socks' and 'mittens', remembered the little girl who had given her that name. And Leo, the plastic lion doll, felt the same for his now long dead owner.
The toys didn't have forever, the gods would reach their decision sooner than later. Any humans who were still humans then, would simply cease, to exist. No war, no lightning from the sky, no pillars of flames, nothing you could shoot at, nothing you could fire a nuke at, humans would go simply poof, and all proof they had ever been with them. The toys were the loop hole, the way to avoid making it so their makers had never been at all.
The two living toys crawled out of the attic.
