Greg was a bit heavy footed as he drove Jeff over to the school auto shop.
"Whoa, Greggy nice Jeep."
"A bit GI, plain jane, and all that, but that's why you brought her in. I'll sandblast the cheap stock paint off, and get her ready for a custom paint job. You wanna go with flames, or something exotic?"
"Let's check under the hood. Four cylinder? Let's add nitro and really supe her up."
"Wait-" Jeff started to say over the radio which was blaring out a Lorde song. He didn't finish because Danny had come over and after removing a couple screws had yanked the radio out of the dash silencing both Lorde and Jeff.
"This trash radio's gotta go. I'll put in a state of the art, streaming sound system," Danny said as he tossed Jeff's radio into a nearby trash can.
"Hey, that's not trash!" Greg protested.
"Greg's right, it's not trash. Put it on the parts rack, we can salvage parts from it or use in another vehicle. But for the project a streaming sound system with wifi and surround sound will be better," Mr. Birch, the shop teacher, said.
Greg couldn't disagree. He wondered how Jeff would sound with the new sound system?
Jeff had already been rolled on to a lift and was 5 feet off the ground, as Cliff and Reg inspected the undercarriage and shocks, and Steve started to remove the tires.
"Hey, those are practically new," Greg protested.
"You need bigger wheels and better tires if you plan to race this thing off road, Greggy," Steve said.
Greg had to stop thinking of the car as Jeff. It was his project. Jeff would be okay whatever they did. He was almost sure of it.
