The Illness Spreads

added by Rarg 8 years ago AP TG

David hugged Vickie tightly, letting her sob to relieve some of the fear. He was confused and frightened but determined to stay strong for Vickie. His first thought was that things like this just...couldn't happen. Whatever that portal was, it was something that he couldn't understand, but he did know something that he could do. Some action that he could take right now.

David softly backed out of the embrace and looked down to look into Vickie's face, "Vickie, I think we should see if we can find a doctor for you, I've never seen anything like that portal before, and I'm not sure who we could even ask about that...but I at least want to make sure you're all right. That's something we can get checked out at least."

Vickie was still sniffling, but as she looked up at her Dad's face through her tears she knew that he was truly worried. As much as he tried to hide it, she could see through his mask and that made her heart beat faster in fear.

"Yeah..." she sobbed, "That'd be great Dad"

The pounding in her head wasn't leaving, but she felt much better lying in the bed in the hotel room. The one thing she noticed was that the itching on her legs was starting to slow down. It was still uncomfortable but she was at least able to move now without feeling the dire urge to scratch at her legs, it felt like she had a bunch of really bad mosquito bites...well HAIRY mosquito bites.

David sighed and sat down on the other side of the bed. "Vickie, I know this isn't really my place, but with your mom not here and this...situation why don't we go get you some razors so that you can deal with some of this hair. I'm no expert on shaving legs but I know essentially how it's done thanks to your mom. We'll have you looking like your old self in no time." He said all this with a slight sad smile.

Vickie thought about it a little. She liked the idea of going back to normal, but she really didn't want to go outside like...this.

"Dad? Could you just go pick some up for me? I'd really just like to lie down and see if I can get rid of this headache, I'm not sure how up I am to walking around town."

David looked at her with concern in his tired eyes. "I suppose that would be fine, why don't you take some medicine for it? I've got some in my suitcase along with some bottled water, try to take a nap while I'm gone. I'm certain it won't take me long, they might even have something in the shop in the lobby."

As David left the room, Vickie gulped down some of the water and the medicine from David's stuff. The pounding was really growing worse now, she could barely focus on anything else. Groaning in pain, she placed her face down into the pillow and tried to drown herself in silence and darkness. The itchiness was still in her legs, but it was dimmed somewhat by the pain in her head. It felt as though her whole forehead was about to burst from the pain. She also started to notice a growing roughness as pain started to radiate from her throat. It was curious, the pain in her head was dimming and the itching in her legs was fading, but this new pain was growing to take their place.

Vickie ran over to where she'd left the water bottle, hoping that the water would relieve the burning in her throat. As she chugged down the water she noticed that the pain wasn't receding, instead it seemed to be growing more and more prevalent. But it was mainly in the front of her throat.

"Auuuugggghhhh...." she couldn't help but mutter. It was as though the pain itself wanted to push out of her throat, it was a sensation she simply couldn't understand.

Resigning herself to deal with this new pain, she slumped back over to the bed with a new bottle of water as her dad walked back into the room.

"Vickie, as it turns out that little store did have some razors, are you still feeling bad or do you want to try and deal with your hair issues?"

Vickie turned over in the bed to look at her father, even though the pain in her throat was intense she tried to speak loudly so her dad could hear her across the room, "Yeah, I think I'll leave it be for a little bit, I'll try in the morning. I'm feeling even worse now."

As she started to speak she was surprised at how rough her voice sounded. Her dad looked similarly surprised as he glanced over at her.

"Vickie? Was that really your voice?"

Vickie blushed and gulped down some more water. "Yeah. my throat is KILLING me. I'm not sure what this thing is but I really don't like it so far."

David was getting more and more worried, his insane theory kept poking him in the back of his mind but he decided it was too insane, even after the day they'd had. He'd just have to handle this one step at a time.

He sighed and looked at Vickie again, "Alright, well I think it's time that you got some sleep. Maybe you'll feel better after resting."

As they got ready for bed, Vickie looked back down at her legs. It was just too weird to see her legs, so thin and dainty covered in that thick hair. She was really looking forward to shaving it all off in the morning.
