Vickie sat on the bed, silently fuming. While David had argued with the doctor that this was no "prank" she'd had to sit there and deal with all of the prodding and poking. According to the doctor, HE was perfectly healthy. That's right...the doctor had used the work "HE" to describe Vickie. There was something about that that had just killed her inside. The worst part was that her dad had to let her borrow some of his boxers...she hadn't wanted to do it, but her previous undergarments were just NOT able to fulfill their prior duties thanks to her most recent change.
As the doctor left, David ran his hands through his hair. He looked almost worse than she did.
"So the doctor thinks you're a perfectly healthy boy of about 13...he thinks we were trying to play a joke on him. The only thing that gave him pause was your long hair and face. But I guess he thinks you couldn't fake the other stuff." David uttered a quick short laugh, it sounded more mocking than truly mirthful though. "I'm not quite sure where to turn now, at this point most physicians are going to assume the same."
Vickie thought about it for a minute before answering, "Do we want to try going back to that portal thing? Maybe if I fall through it again I can reverse it? Or...maybe I can jump from the bottom out into the top?! I don't know! I just don't want to be stuck in this...weird body any longer!"
David thought about it for a second, the logic made sense...as far as logic could be applied to dark holes in the fabric of space and time. Heck, what did he know? Maybe it could make things worse?! But what did they really have to lose at this point?
"Fine, let's try that out. I can't think of any better options." he muttered.
"Let's do it then." Vickie stated, "I'd like to get back into my normal body. Being a boy doesn't really feel right."
Just then, Vickie sat down quickly and looked flushed.
David was quick to notice and sat down beside her quickly, "Vickie?"
This time, the change happened fairly quickly. David was even able to witness it for once. Vickie's face, flushed from the pain, started to change in subtle ways. Her lips started to thin out, losing their plumpness while her nose started to thicken and broaden. As her eyes flinched in pain, David could see the angles of Vickie's face change, the chin becoming more defined and squared off (more like his) instead of the dainty, curved chin his wife possessed. The brow became thicker and the eyebrows thickened up as well while the cheekbones became more evident, squaring Vickie's face off even more. He even noticed the adam's apple from earlier protruding slightly further out and Vickie's face rearranged. The weirdest part this time was the way Vickie's hair started to recede, pulling back into a short buzzed cut. The long blonde hair had become a much shorter, and distinctly male cut. Something in the new features reminded David of himself at that age, he wondered if this is what Vickie as a boy would have looked like.
"Owww....that went fast but felt really weird." Vickie muttered in a slightly deeper tone, "What was that all about?"
David was so surprised he could barely speak, "Uhh...check the mirror..." was about all he could get out.
As Vickie walked over to the mirror, David put his head in his hands trying to figure things out. As Vickie got to the mirror she exclaimed, "What the heck!? I totally look like a guy now! This blows!"
David perked up a little bit as he heard the way Vickie was complaining, "That doesn't sound quite like you, what's that about?"
Vickie turned around, tears in the corner of her eyes, "Dad I look like a freaking GUY! Of course I'm not quite myself! What did you expect?! Can we get going?! I NEED this to be fixed!"
As much as he disliked Vickie's tone, he had to agree. It was definitely time to try something.
