You had heard Butch yell for his friends to come back calling them cowards and your mom went to see what was going on telling you to stay at the table. When she came back you noticed that she had two others with her, a werelion and one of the police who had come to make sure you left school. When he saw you he stopped short recognizing you and then said, "I was hoping to run into you some day so I could apologize for my part in kicking you out of school. I didn't like doing it and after I quit the force. By the way my name is Jack Harper and this big lion here is Simba."
You nodded to them both and remembered the look on Jack's face that day. You knew that he hadn't wanted to do that, he was just doing his job. "I knew you were only doing your job and that you didn't like it so there was no reason for you to apologize but thanks and it's accepted," you said with a smile. Your smile turned into a frown as you said, "It's the ones that were with you that should be apologizing."
"I doubt they ever will," Jack said sighing. "I have this feeling that if you had even hinted at resisting they would have had no qualms about shooting you. It really surprised me that you allowed them to put handcuffs on you."
"Well like you said if I didn't they would have killed me," you said playing with the bracelet you were required to wear in human form, "it wasn't worth trying to resist. Besides it made them a bit more comfortable even though they were scared out of their minds."
"So was I," Jack admitted. "Not because of what you are but because I had no idea what you might do."
"You thought... she would... try to kill... you?" Simba asked tilting his head.
Jack shrugged and said, "That was a possibility I had to consider just like any other time."
Just then a breeze blew in through an open window and you caught the scent of fresh human blood. Without thinking you bolted up from the chair and ran out to the forest behind your house following the scent of blood. In the back of your mind you thought that this could be a trap set by werewolf hunters but you had to go because it could be someone who was hurt. When you arrived where the scent was leading you gasped at the sight in front of you. "Oh my God," you said in a low whisper because it was that horrifying. The clothes suggested that it was a girl about six or seven though the body was so mangled that it was difficult to tell if it was a girl. There was no hair on the head, in fact there didn't seem to be a scalp. The face was pretty torn up as well as the rest of the body that you could see so it was impossible to know for certain if it was a boy or girl. There wasn't much blood around the body but you noticed a blood trail from it deeper into the forest.
"Oh Jesus," Jack said as Simba snarled and your mom gasped. "What kind of monster would do this?"
Just then the body drew in a ragged breath and you yelled, "She's still alive! Call 911!" You ran the rest of the way over to her and as you got closer you could smell the scent of a werewolf on her. "No," you whispered, "not one of them, not now. Please let me be wrong about the scent." Though she knew she wasn't wrong about the scent. There was a werewolf or werewolves that hunted humans around. This was going to complicate things.
