Jake and Heather are married for 30 years now and they still love each other. They had only one son who died of cancer some yeras ago and left the couple alone. As much as they tried Heather didn't conceive again. Now the had reached an age that makes another pregnancy for Heather impossible. Heather was very sad. She always wanted to have at least one daighter and now she had to accept her fate.
Jake knew what his wife was dreaming of. He tried everything to impregnate her again. He even went to a doctor to see whether his sperms are lively enough to do their work. The doctor assured him that he could become a father any time.
One day Jake was walking through the local mall. He was looking for a christmas present for Heather. Deep in his thoughts he didn't watch where he was going to and finally he found himself in front of a store which had not seen before. The sign at the door said "Spells 'R' Us" (as most of you might have guessed). Jake opened the door and entered the shop. He came across a sight of long rows of shelves carrying every kind of more or less strange stuff.
"Hello Jake!" A voice came from a corner. Jake turned around to see an old man in a kind of a bathrobe. "It is so nice to meet you here eventually. I was wondering when you might show up."
"He ... Hello" Jake answered. "Who are you? How come you know my name? Why have you been waiting for me?"
"That's a lot of question at one time! Two answer then all in short: I am the wizzard who is running this shop.It's a magical shop as you might have guessed from the name."
"Wizzard? Magical? There is no such thing as magic!"
"Are you sure? How else should I know that your name is Jake, you are 59 years old and married to Heather who is 56. You had a son who died 15 years ago and as hard as you tried you couldn't get anoither child. You feel sad that you couldn't impregnate Heather and she is too old now to conceive again. Today you are looking for a christmas present."
Jake froze. This funny looking old man seemed to know a lot about him.
"Don't worry, Jake. I can help you out with your problems. It happens that I got the rivght present for your wife." With these words the wizzard took a bottle from one of the shelves. It looked like some kind of sirup.
"You take this sirup", the woizzard told confirming Jake's thoughts, "and mix it with water in a relation of 1 part of sirup to 4 parts of water. The both of you should drink it on Christmas Eve And as you happen to be my first customer for today you will get it for free."
"Why should we do so? What is this Sirup?"
"Don't ask too many questions!" the wizzasrd demanded. "Take this sirup and solve your problems or leave my shop right now!"
Jake thought for a while but then considered that taking a bottle of sirup couldn't harm much.
"Ok! I take it!"
"That's a wise decission. But make sure to have it on Christmas Eve only!"
The wizzard wrapped the bottle in a piece of paper and handed it over to Jake. Jake left mall and went home.
Christmas Eve would be the next day.
He was wondering how the sirup could help.
When Christmas Eve came Jake mixed the sirup with water as he was instructed to do, filled two glasses and gave one to Heather keeping the other one in his hand. They toasted quietly and drank. Then they went to bed.
