One new thing Samuel noticed about the Baby Furs, was their effect on objects they changed. Oh he'd already seen cars, doors, ipads, cellphones, all changed by their touch into toddler friendly equivalents. He'd even seen a bottle of acid turn into a bottle of sparkling water at their touch. But what caught his attention was the gumball machine across the street from his house/radio station.
The baby furs had taken a number of gumballs out of the machine, (and never seemed to chip a tooth or need a diaper change), and yet, the number of gumballs inside never lessened. The same seemed to be true for a bakery near the corner, the cupcakes and sweets never seeming to run out.
The same went for the transformed electronic devices, the batteries never seeming to need changing. He'd even seen a baby fur step on a rusty nail, and it turned into a piece of play foam before it could even piece their skin. An entire town full of nothing but furry toddlers, and not a single one of them was getting hurt or starving or being denied any personal comforts.
There was a small group of baby furs going around, snuggling the discard clothes in the streets, which then transformed into brightly colored happy blankets, who then went door to door, giving them away, or giving one to any who wanted one. Samual saw a baby fur, still wearing his police officer hat, directing traffic, or play tag with a mouse wearing a domino mask who Samual had seen wander in from the direction of the Franklin town jail.
Samual nearly jumped when his cell phone range. He saw the call was from Jessica! A good friend of his, he hadn't seen her since before the infection started. Except now, for some odd reason it had a smilie face next to it.
"H-hello?! Jessica?! Where are you?! Are you okay!?"
"Oh I'm just super-duper fine Sammy!" Said the cheerful voice of a little girl. Samuel's heart sank. No. "Could you look your window pretty pretty please?"
Samuel did so . . . He saw on the edge of the lullaby zone. A baby fur raccoon, holding a large white and pink toy phone with pink hearts over it. She smiled and waved at him.
"I'm having so much fun! But it's super-duper lonely without . . . without you out here having fun too . . . can you come out play? Please? Please don't say no, I'll-I'll cry if you do." The baby fur outside looked ready to burst into tears.
"T-those crying for help don't look like they're having fun!" Samuel said, his mind reeling.
"We'd NEVER not care about others Sammy, shame on you." The baby raccoon girl really did look about to cry.
He also noticed the baby fur he'd seen wandering about crying and calling for help were now being hugged by baby furs wearing police hat, stroking their fur. Their hiccups calming down and were given somewhere to take a nap.
"Please Sammy, d-don't you like me? D-don't you w-want to play with me?" The baby raccoon said over the cell phone, outside, he saw her eyes welling up with tears.
