"If the people in this town are racist then I better go first, since I'm the most human-looking," Brian declared. "I'll scout things out to make sure that everything is safe and try to find the wizard, then I'll come back for you guys so we can all meet him."
None of the others had any objection to the newly-minted elf's plan (nor did they notice Ty's evil grin), so Brian set off, an undisguised elven adventurer in cloth and leather gear with a sword at his side and a bow and quiver at his back, which he somehow knew that he knew how to use. Despite his changes being insignificant compared to Joe or Mike, he was enjoying the feeling of his lean, lithe, agile, handsome new body, and felt confident that he would be able to get himself out of any trouble that could arise.
The town of Lavenguard was quite impressive: short, shoddy buildings and filthy, smelly streets full of equally filthy and smelly people, including no shortage of naked kids running around, as well as a fair number of horses, donkeys, pigs, chickens, and other animals. All of the people Brian could see seemed to be humans, which struck him as odd for some reason, despite the fact that he was quite used to everyone around him being a human, and many of them gave him suspicious-looking glances and glares as he passed by. Hmm, if they were treating him this way then it was probably for the best that they didn't send one of the more visibly non-human members of the group instead. No one gave him a hard time, anyway, so he continued looking around town, although there wasn't anywhere that looked like it was where a wizard, or indeed anyone of any importance, might be. Nor did anyone in the crowd appear to be anything other than a simple peasant.
This might be a challenge, Brian thought. He didn't know if it was wise to simply go around asking for the wizard, or if a more stealthy approach was called for. What would a stealthy approach even be, anyway? And if he chose to be direct, how to go about it? Would a random peasant on the street even know about the wizard, or be willing to tell him if they did? He might try checking out the tavern, which seemed to be the largest building in town, and asking around there -- that was usually a sound strategy in role-playing games. Or maybe he just needed to look around town more closely to see if there was anything he had missed.
