Glen comes back

added by Handle Taken 8 years ago O

You lay on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably for what seems like an hour, though time doesn't mean as much to you as it once did. You make your way to the front porch and sit with your knees pulled in close, your arms folded on top of them and your face buried against it. You're not leaving, you know that now. Whatever happens you're powerless to stop it and this house, this damned house let that man in just to let him leave again. It was bad enough when you were alone, but then to have some sort of companionship only to watch helplessly as he walked away again makes all the loneliness come back again in a crushing wave. Your crying subsides only slightly until you're simply sitting there motionless save for your quiet sobbing breathes. The answer is clear to you. The house wants you to suffer. Giving you things and then taking them away. Letting trace the maze and then letting you know it was all hopeless. Everything this house wants to break you, sever any possibility of hope. Once that's gone, what will happen? Will you even care by then? Will nothing happen, and you'll be forced to prolong this forever? You have no answers.

"Look, what's going on here?" you hear a voice say. You gasp, and your head shoots up, your heart beating fast in your chest as you look up to see Glen standing there, hands placed in the pockets of his jeans as he looks at you with a mixture of confusion and suspicion. Once you overcome the shock of seeing him arrive you want to run up and hug him, but you don't dare. For all you know he might disappear, or turn into something awful. You long to tell him, tell him everything that's happened to you, but what would be the point? You sigh and close your eyes.

"There's no point in telling you. You'd never believe me." you say to him.

"Try me." he says and sits on the porch next to you. You're unsure at first. You simply bury your head back into your arms, certain that when you look up he'll be gone again. A slight shift on the boards of the porch steps tells you that he's still here. Finally you begin your tale, slowly and nervously at first, knowing it must sound insane to him, but as you continue you get more emphatic, bring your head up and facing him, and finally turning to face him entirely as the whole story of everything that's happened here since you came.

"...I just wish I knew what to do. I'm sorry for whatever I did that was so wrong. I'm sorry! Please!" you shout to the door of the house as though it would hear you. Glenn grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you, just enough to calm you down.

"Hey, hey hey, just chill okay?" he says.

"Do you believe me?" you ask. The look on his face tells you he doesn't. "I knew you wouldn't." you say and turn away from him.

"Look..." he begins to say, but stops "It's just that...look do you need me to call someone?" You shake your head

"Do you need me to stay with you until, your pare...well stay with you a while?" he asks. The thought reverberates in your head a bit. If he stayed here, fell asleep in the beds, maybe you wouldn't be alone anymore.
