Day of the Baby Furs: The End of the Day...

added by s1 8 years ago O

"Just Florida?" Sammy asked as the six baby furs proceeded to walk up a flight of stairs in Doctor Sammy and Allen's home. It had all the same looks that any baby fur's home looked like, but was larger in size than Sammy's home back in Franklin, or "Franky Town" as many were calling it.

"We were on vay...kay...shun when we met her," Allen spoke to him, "She'd just left the army base with some friends. We played tag for a little while before we had to come home."

"Oh," Sammy sighed and looked down for a moment.

He soon felt Jessy come up beside him to pat his back as they continued to go up the stairs. He felt a great deal of reassurance from her in that as she did so, which made him smile. Jessy was his super-duper best friend and her comforting him "like" her even more. A good part of his mind even reasoned that he loved her like mommies and daddies loved each other. He was surprised a bit at that reasoning within his mind, as he'd never pictured such young children, but at the same time he was glad he felt that way. Jessy was his bestest friend.

"Why the interest in the first fur?" Doctor Sammy asked as they reached the top of the stairs, "We're all like her..."

"Not in every way," Sammy pointed out, "She's a squirrel fur, I'm a fox fur, you're a fox fur, Jessy's a raccoon, Allen is a good we...zal, and Jace and Janet are horse furs. We're all different species of fur."

"But we're like her were it counts," Janet said proudly, "we're friends with everyone, we like to play, and we won't be mean to anyone."

"Yah!" Jace and Jessy were quick to agree.

"Wouldn't that be enough to want to talk with the first fur more?" Sammy asked, "we're all so very alike in many ways... and yet different in others?"

"Wouldn't humans see themselves the same way though?" Allen commented, "similar in many ways yet different in others."

That made some degree of sense, but not entirely. Unfortunately, Sammy still couldn't put together a reply to explain why Allen's analogy worked entirely. Much of his motivation was to try and find a way to stop the uncontrolled transforming of people that baby furs seemed to have. Humans didn't need to become baby furs to be their friends and most of their "foolish" acts to avoid being transformed all demonstrated a fear of them. Sammy figured that if that uncontrolled transforming could be stopped then humans and baby furs could sit down and talk and all sides would come to an understanding and they could all be friends without forcing things. Maybe, if they found out enough, they could find out a way create the ability to control the transforming powers baby furs had so that if someone wanted to become a baby fur, that would be possible.

"Well... perhaps you're right there," Sammy admitted, "but wouldn't you still want to talk with the first fur? Know for sure how she came about? Know how she... how WE work? And use that stop all the fighting between baby furs and humans?"

"We are trying to find how we work," Doctor Sammy answered, "and we've found out lots!"

Sammy nodded, remembering what Doctor Sammy had shown him and Jessy earlier in the day. The female fox fur had found out a lot that made sense, scientifically. Some was interesting with regards to the possible scientific origins of baby furs, some was sad that they couldn't wake up those who went to sleep and didn't get up, and some was reassuring that they weren't just plushies in disguise.

"Yes... but what about a way to stopping the fighting with humans?" Sammy asked, "They do fear us."

Doctor Sammy looked to Allen and then to their children, though all four of them looked like they were about the same age physically, and then sighed. Her face and eyes carried a rather defeated look when she returned her gaze to Sammy.

"I'm not sure I can help you there, Sammy," Doctor Sammy said slowly, "we're only just finding out stuff about baby furs and the first fur stayed in Florida."

"And even if she came with us, there might not be a way to end the fighting and ease their fears," Allen answered, "I'm sorry."

Sammy only sighed again.

"Maybe we can go and look for her," Jessy said to Sammy, "Find her and talk to her..."

"You'd do that?" Sammy asked.

"Of course," Jessy answered, "it'd be an adventure!"

"Thanks, Jessy," Sammy smiled.

They paused when they heard a loud yawn from beside them. They turned to see Doctor Sammy lowering a hand from her muzzle to cover up that she had just yawned.

"That'll have to wait until tomorrow," Doctor Sammy answered, "it is getting late."

She gestured to a window at the end of the hallway they were now. The sky was beginning to get darker outside, which did indicate that night was coming. Baby furs enjoyed playing, and Sammy had to admit that this was the best day he'd ever had. However, having fun didn't change the fact that the day only had so many hours in it before they'd have to rest so they could play again the next day.

"Okay," Sammy nodded.

Allen then moved forward and opened a door to the main bedroom, "We can all sleep in here."

Sammy and Jessy followed Doctor Sammy and her family in. In the room they found the largest wooden crib they'd ever seen with several large baby blankets in it as well. Looking at it made Sammy yawn and within moments, Sammy found himself in the crib with the others and cuddled up to Jessy. She cuddled up to him in return.
