Tricia groaned inwardly. The person at the table with Linda was Holly, a girl they had known from high school. Tricia had no fondness for Holly, who had a reputation for showing off how many guys she could attract. She was particularly known for picking on less-attractive girls and making concerted efforts to steal their boyfriends, who were dumped soon after she had her way with them. As usual, she was dressed rather provocatively, although Tricia knew from gym class that Holly tended to stuff her bra, despite her ample size.
Linda looked rather uncomfortable, but glanced up relieved when she saw Tricia approaching.
"Oh, so you are here with someone. Not the wallflower anymore, huh?" Holly grinned viciously as she turned to face Tricia. Tricia smiled down at Holly, hiding his true feelings, and leaned around her to place the drinks on the table.
"A friend of yours, Linda?" Tricia asked sweetly. Holly had frozen for a moment in shock, surprised at how attractive Linda's date was. A flicker of suspicion passed across her eyes, and Tricia could almost see the wheels turning upstairs. Before Linda could reply, Holly put on her most seductive smiled and leaned forward into Tricia a bit.
"A former classmate!" Holly purred. "And who might you be?"
"Tristan, Linda's date," Tricia replied smoothly, fairly certain what Holly would try to do next.
"Oh, her play-date? But you look so bored. Why not play with someone who can show you what a good time really is?" Holly smiled, sidling nearer.
"Hey, are they your friends?" Holly's advances were cut short by a male voice. As Tricia and Holly turned, Tricia was surprised to see the man he had bumped into at the bar. Holy looked disappointed for a moment, but without missing a beat stepped over beside the handsome young man and plastered herself on him.
"This is my boyfriend, Ben," Holly announced proudly, obviously trying to convince Linda that she had the better man. "He plays baseball for the state university."
